Cédric Doumbé is looking forward to his second PFL outing. The former GLORY welterweight champ made good on his hype in September. At PFL Europe 3, he made his debut for the promotion with a spectacular nine-second KO over Jordan Zebo. He will face rising prospect Baissangour Chamsoudinov on March 7 in the main event of the PFL Europe card in Paris. He took the MMA world by storm with the announcement recently. Recently, he ripped into Dana White and Co. for letting him go.
It is a sentiment he has expressed before as well, about the missed opportunities. The French star recently said the UFC messed up on not signing him on. Time and again, he has ridiculed the promotion for missing out on a viable opportunity. And yet again, here’s what he had to say:
That makes me smile because they f**ked up. They f**ked up. But I didn’t lose anything. They lost. So it is what it is, you know? Everything happens for a reason... I’m not that younger fighter. So I think I’m more close to the end than the beginning, so I think I will not open the UFC door again. But we never know...Cedric Doumbe via MMA Hour
For the kickboxer, it’s further confirmation that he made the right move by signing with the PFL after originally expecting to become a UFC fighter in 2022. Doumbé’s debut was derailed by a medical issue, and he was eventually released. And he remains not too keen on reversing the situation. Additionally, he looks forward to making history in France with the PFL.
Concurrently, the fighter spoke on to-be opponent Chamsoudinov as well. Chamsoudinov has a large fan base in France. Consequently, Doumbé plans to perform that much harder against the Chechen. He also recently added on the opponent, gaining more hype than he currently had.
PFL’s Cédric Doumbé weighs in on opponent Baissangour Chamsoudinov
5-0-0 Cédric Doumbé is perhaps one of the worst promotional fumbles for UFC. Doumbé is a relatively new signing for the PFL, the rival promotion of Dana White. As such, there is no love lost between them; the fighter hinted as much during his recent sitdown with The MMA Hour.
Alongside, he also weighed in on his future opponent, Baissangour Chamsoudinov. ‘Le Meilleur’ faces Chamsoudinov this March at PFL Europe. Speaking on it, he said:
People, they’re talking a lot of sh*t about [him winning] because he looks like a wrestler. He’s [originally] from Chechnya, he looks like a wrestler, and nobody [has been able to] take me down. And they think he is the guy, as they thought Jordan was the guy. So now they think he’s the guy, but I will show the same — first-round knockout — and they will find another guy who is supposed to be the guy, that guy. And it’s the same sh*t, different day...
His debut appearance in the PFL immediately became one of the most talked about debuts of the 2023 season. Renowned for his flair for drama, Doumbé marched out with a mattress to ‘sleep’ his opponent, with French football superstar Kylian Mbappe in attendance. Subsequently, he finished his opponent in seconds and up and left. A feat he plans on performing again this March.
