Derek Brunson faced Ray Copper III on his PFL debut. He dominated the fight throughout the three rounds and secured a unanimous decision win. However, the fans accused the former UFC fighter of taking steroids and PEDs. Since his physique was in much better shape than it was in the UFC, fans claimed that Brunson was using banned substances. However, Bruson shuts all noise in his recent tweet.

During the lead-up to the fight, images of Derek Brunson made the journey through the internet. He looked more muscular and lean than he was for his last fight. Now, Brunson replied on X that he had never taken steroids in his life. Further, he stated that his motivation for this fight was high and he dialed in on the details to get the ultimate physique. Here is what he said:

PFL vs UFC physique. I saw the debates online Steroid / PEDs or natural. Answer : never took any steroids or peds ever . Attention to details , no sodas , no chips , no candy , 10-15 miles of running for 10-12 weeks . The motivation was different !

Derek Brunson ended his contract with the UFC in September. He competed under the UFC for over a decade and was ranked in the top ten for most part of his career. However, the veteran never got his shot at the middleweight title.

He put up a five-fight win streak in his last run to the title but fell short when he faced Jared Cannonier in a title eliminator. Later he lost to Dricus Du Plessis before being released from his contract.

Later, Derek Brunson joined the PFL as he wanted a fresh start. Currently, ‘Blonde’ has an MMA record of 24 wins and 9 losses. He won his last fight dominantly against the two-time PFL champion Ray Cooper III. Now, he was said to move up in weight class and fight in the upcoming PFL light-heavyweight championship tournament next year.

Derek Brunson hits at early retirement after his PFL debut

Derek Brunson debuted for the Professional Fighters League (PFL) last weekend against Ray Cooper III. He took the fight even after his opponent missed weight. However, he dominated Cooper III and controlled him for the whole three rounds.

‘Blonde’ earned a lopsided victory with judges scoring the contest 30-25, 30-25, and 30-27. But later, on X, he revealed that he may not fight again.

The former UFC fighter stated that he had earned enough money on his PFL debut that he may not fight again. This statement can’t be taken lightly considering Brunson is 39 years old. Further, he mentioned that PFL took good care of him.

So, he may retire as he said. But, earlier, he was said to compete in the upcoming PFL light-heavyweight tournament in 2024. As such, Brunson would most likely compete next year but he’s uncertain about his retirement.

The PFL always gives lucrative contracts to its fighters. As such, Derek Brunson got a good deal in his newfound home. Despite this, the UFC veteran also had no ill will toward the UFC.
