Khai Wu is an MMA fighter on the rise. He had signed a deal with the PFL recently and is making his debut for the company in November. In an exclusive interview with FirstSportz, he had interesting things to say about Conor McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh. He met Kavanagh this year and recounted his experience of meeting him.
Khai Wu said that he was more interested in Kavanagh than he was in McGregor. He said that when McGregor rose to superstardom, everyone had eyes on him. But Wu had set his eyes on the brilliance of McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh. The Shadow mentioned that Ireland had no real champions or big-fight teams previously, and it was Kavanagh who built everything from the ground. Here is what Khai Wu said in the interview:
As big of a McGregor fan as everone was, I was actually really interested in his coach... Coach Kavanagh was just someone that I was like man what an interesting way. they have no real champions in Ireland like they didn't have a big team or anything. So, he built everything from the ground up.Khai Wu (via FirstSportz)
In the interview, Khai Wu talked about Kavanagh’s personality and said that he was calm, knowledgeable, and cool. He even mentioned that he entertained questions from him and answered them patiently. Wu said that his meeting with Kavanagh validated him and his coach to make it big in their own way.
Khai Wu is known as “The Shadow” and he was the training partner of Mark Zuckerberg. The video that Zuckerberg posted last year showcased Wu and him training together. It went viral as everyone was surprised to see Zuckerberg train with a professional fighter (Wu). Currently, Wu has a record of 7 wins and 4 losses. ‘The Shadow’ has a deal with the PFL and is set to make his debut on November 24.
Khai Wu spoke about his thoughts on making his PFL debut
The PFL signed Khai Wu last June. Now, he is making his debut in the bantamweight division for them. Phil Caracappa is his opponent. He has a record of 9-3 which is close to Wu’s record of 7-4. However, when talking about it in an interview, Wu mentioned that Caracappa was coming off a loss while he was coming off a win. As such, The Sahdow believed he had the momentum on his side.
Khai Wu further stated that the pressure was on the side of his opponent as he had already fought internationally on the big stage and had the experience on his side. He acknowledged the fact that this fight would be a breakthrough in their careers. Later, the American mentioned that the fighter who would handle the pressure better would win.
We're gonna see who cracks under pressure. I think in this fight it's not necessarily who's the better fighter but it's who can withstand pressure a little bit more.Khai Wu (via MMAUnhinged)
Wu has previously fought in Bellator early in his career. Now, his foray into PFL is another opportunity to shine.
