One massive topic of discussion in golf in recent days have once again been the ongoing merger deal. Last week, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan along with player-director Adam Scott and Tiger Woods met US President Donald Trump. They would urge him to intervene and help get this done. A golf insider has now claimed that the two parties have reached a financial agreement for this deal.

The world of golf was left in shock when Monahan along with Public Investment Fund (PIF) governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan joined forces in June 2023. The two leaders would sit down together and announce a merger between the tour and the PIF in an attempt to reunify the game.

Since the merger deal has been announced, the PGA Tour and the PIF have been working on to get it through. The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has become a major roadblock for this deal. This is one of the reasons why Monahan, Woods and Scott visited the White House in Washington D.C. recently.

As per golf insider Rex Hoggard, the parties involved in this deal have reached a financial agreement. Speaking on the Golf Channel podcast, the insider claimed that they have presented as many as 4 different options for the DOJ to explore. The announcement for this could be made in the first quarter of this year.

Trump had previously claimed that he could wrap up the deal in 15 minutes. While there has been no official announcement yet, with him on the board, the deal could be reached quicker than previously anticipated.

Brandel Chamblee makes dramatic U-turn over LIV Golf following Donald Trump’s intervention in merger deal

For years, golf analyst Brandel Chamblee had taken some brutal digs at LIV Golf and their members. However, during the 2025 Waste Management Phoenix Open, he made a dramatic U-turn. The 62-year-old claimed that Donald Trump changed his mind.

Just a week ago, Chamblee had launched a scathing attack on Phil Mickelson, Joaquin Niemann and Talor Gooch. He though completely changed his tune and spoke about how Trump made him think about LIV Golf as partners of golf.

He said, ‘Yasir (Al-Rumayyan) loves golf more than you do and more than I do.’ Now, that’s hard to believe because President Trump plays a lot of golf and I’m crazy about it, but he was serious.

Brandel Chamblee said on Golf Channel

The analyst later claimed that Trump told him to consider the bigger picture and keep his personal judgements aside.

At the end of it, I will say that he (Donald Trump) did change my mind. He made me think about Yasir (Al-Rumayyan) as a partner in the game of golf, and not looking just for an economic opportunity through the game of golf.

Brandel Chamblee added

Social media users would later go on to slam Chamblee for his sudden change of views. It now remains to be seen when this merger deal will actually go through and reunify the game of golf.
