6-time major champion Phil Mickelson found himself in hot water on Friday. Before the Team Championship finale this week, the HyFlyers GC captain took a shot at the PGA Tour and expressed that he would feel anxious at events.

The “Lefty” was one of the biggest names on the PGA Tour who defected to LIV Golf following the establishment of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) funded circuit. Since then, he has often found himself being criticized for his move.

In the press conference before the final LIV Golf event of the season, Mickelson was asked about the difference in experience between LIV Golf Tournaments and the PGA Tour ones. The veteran golfer went on to claim that he would be nervous before a PGA Tour event. He further stated that he feels comfortable at LIV events.

I would just say that I used to have anxiousness going to a (PGA) Tour event with all the details and things that would go on. I would be anxious and not want to go. I’d go as late as I could. At a LIV event, I can’t wait to get here. I come earlier. I can’t wait to get here. The experience from a player’s standpoint it’s better than I could have ever imagined.

Mickelson would also make another bold claim. He spoke on the fan experience at LIV and PGA Tour events and expressed that the fans leave their tournaments “wanting more” compared to being “stressed” at PGA Tour ones.

Fans are leaving [LIV events], they’ve had a good time. They’ve left relaxed, enjoying and wanting more, rather than have the day drag on, being tired and run down, and being stressed about not interfering and being quiet and so forth.

This is not the first time Phil Mickelson has made such comments regarding fan experience on both tours. In an appearance on “The Joe Pump Show” with Joe Pompliano earlier this year, the former World No.2 claimed that LIV Golf will succeed because of the fan experience.

The golfer expressed that fans can bring their children without feeling uncomfortable on LIV Golf. Mickelson believes that his tour provides a more kid-friendly atmosphere, which will lead to people returning due to the positive experience.

He once again found himself under the heat from social media users regarding his latest comments. Users on X took a massive swipe at him and blasted him. Some of them took digs at him by comparing the competition level between the two tours. One user claimed Mickelson “tarnished his legacy” by joining LIV Golf.

Mickelson turned professional in 1992 and has played in 670 PGA Tour events. During this time, he has claimed 45 PGA Tour wins, which include 6 major championships. He has also made over $96 million while playing on the Tour.

Phil Mickelson to face Jon Rahm in LIV Golf Team Championship Semi-Final

During the quarterfinals of the Team Championship on Friday, Phil Mickelson’s HyFlyers GC took down Sergio Garcia‘s Fireballs GC and advanced to the semi-finals. Here, they will take on Jon Rahm‘s led Legion XIII, a team that has won 4 team titles this season.

In the matchup against the third-seed Fireballs GC, Mickelson and team pulled out one of the biggest upsets. They would win all 3 matches and sweep their opponents to set up a clash with Legion XIII.

Mickelson will tee off against Rahm, who this past Sunday was crowned the LIV Golf Individual Champion once again. Despite not winning a single event, Rahm took down Joaquin Niemann (who won 5 times) to go back-to-back as the individual champion.

While the two former Masters Champions face off against each other, Cameron Tringale will go up against Tyrrell Hatton in singles matches. The foursomes matches will see Caleb Surratt and Tom McKibbin (Legion XIII) take on Brendan Steele and Andy Ogletree (HyFlyers GC).
