Six-time major champion Phil Mickelson has come forward in support of Daniel Penny. The veteran golfer took to his social media account to praise the former Marine as he faces trial of negligent homicide in the subway chokehold case against Jordan Neely.
On May 1, 2023, Penny and Neely came face to face with each other while riding on a train in New York. Neely, an alleged homeless man, started threatening the passengers on the subway by screaming and throwing his jacket.
After witnessing the commotion, Penny would grab the 30-year-old man from the back side and put him in a chokehold. Two men would further assist Penny in restricting Neely.
The homeless man was later pronounced dead at a hospital. The reason for his death was due to the compression in the neck region. A few days later, Penny was charged with second-degree manslaughter.
However, a judge has now dismissed the second-degree manslaughter charge. Penny now faces a trial for a less charge – negligent homicide. If found guilty, he could be sentenced up to four years in prison.
Reacting to a post by political commentator Collin Rugg, Phil Mickelson lauded the efforts of Penny and thanked him for ‘protecting‘ the passengers from a ‘deranged‘ Neely. “The Lefty” took to his X account and pointed out that lives were threatened by Neely on the train.
Agree. Thank you Daniel for serving your country and for protecting the many passengers whose lives were threatened by this violent and deranged individual. https://t.co/tUI5pe7pFV

The post of Mickelson has received major support as well. As of now, the post has over 58,000 likes with many agreeing with the golf veteran on his take. The trial of Penny will now continue on Monday after the jury took a weekend’s break.
Phil Mickelson slams PGA Tour for alleged ‘violation’ of contract law of struggling professionals
While the PGA Tour is known for its money, not everyone on the tour makes a huge amount. Players who fail to make a cut do not receive anything. Recently, some struggling professionals were looking forward to competing in a par-3 league where they could make $25,000. The PGA Tour would bare them from doing so which led Phil Mickelson to slam them.
As per Monday Q Info, several LPGA stars, YouTubers, and stars from different fields were taking part in a par-3 league in Scottsdale, Arizona. Some PGA Tour, Champions Tour, and Korn Ferry members were also interested in taking part in it. However, the tour blocked their entry into it. Reacting to this, the 54-year-old claimed that this move was not right and “illegal”.
This is a clear violation of independent contract law. I’m so sorry these professionals are continuing to be blackmailed by the Tour. It’s not right and is in fact illegal.

As per Monday Q Info, the inaugural league will consist of 11 eight-person teams divided into four two-person teams. LPGA stars like Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin are in this field. No PGA Tour players will be able to participate in this event after the tour’s intervention.
