On Sunday, Keegan Bradley mounted an incredible comeback in the final round of the Travelers Championship and claimed his 8th PGA Tour win. His stunning win brought out a 5-word reaction from 6-time major champion Phil Mickelson.

After scores of 64 and 70 in the first two rounds, Bradley went low on Saturday and carded a score of 63. However, his best performance came in the final round.

On the final day, Bradley, the home-region golfer, found himself chasing Tommy Fleetwood, who was searching for his first PGA Tour win. Fleetwood had a day to forget on Sunday as he made 5 bogeys and shot a 2-over par score.

Bradley still had some work to do. At the final hole, he needed a birdie to win the tournament in dramatic fashion. The 2011 PGA Championship did just that and made a 6-foot putt to clinch his 8th PGA Tour title and break the heart of Fleetwood.

What made this victory even sweeter for him was the fact that he is the captain of Team USA at the upcoming Ryder Cup. In the final round, he would upset Fleetwood, a European golfer, and claim victory in front of his home fans.

After his putt went in, chants of “USA” would break out. Phil Mickelson, who has made 12 Ryder Cup appearances for Team USA, would hail his former teammate and dropped a 5-word message on X to celebrate his win.

Keegan Bradley is THE MAN!!

This is now Bradley’s 2nd win in this tournament in the last 3 years. In 2023, he finished with a score of 23-under par, 3 shots ahead of the runner-ups Zac Blair and Brian Harman, who both finished 20-under par.

This Sunday marked the one-year anniversary of his phone call with the PGA of America, which asked him to be the next captain of Team USA. Bradley, who had missed out on the 2023 team in Rome, would accept the role and succeed Zach Johnson.

Since he became captain, Bradley has achieved some positive results. Apart from missing the cut at the Masters Tournament, Bradley has made the cut in every other event and now has 5 top-10 finishes this year.

This form has led many to wonder whether he could be a playing captain this year. So far, only World No.1 Scottie Scheffler has officially booked his place in the Team USA squad. While speaking to the media regarding the chances of him playing in the biennial tournament, the golfer expressed that he will take a “hard look” at this situation.

This changes the story a little bit. I never would have thought about playing if I hadn’t won. This definitely opens the door to play. I don’t know if I’m going to do it or not, but I certainly have to take a pretty hard look at what’s best for the team and we’ll see.

Bradley’s win at the Travelers Championship has moved him up to 9th in the Ryder Cup points standings for Team USA. As the captain of the team, he could select himself to play in the event and become the first playing captain since late great Arnold Palmer in 1963.
