Mickelson was originally supposed to lead his team out again this year. He though suffered an injury on his shoulder in the gym, which has now ruled him out for this week’s action.

The 6-time major will now be replaced by Ollie Schniederjans. The American golfer was recently seen participating in the International Series in India and won the tournament, finishing ahead of U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau.

While preparing for the season, I suffered a minor shoulder injury at the gym last week. I’m definitely disappointed that I will miss the season opener, but I look forward to playing in Adelaide. Ollie Schnierderjans will tee it up for me this week and I will be pulling for my teammates from home.

“The Lefty” had been looking forward to the new season. After another disappointing year in 2024, Mickelson admitted that he wants to compete at the highest level.

While joining PGA Tour star Wesley Bryan on the Bryan Bros Golf YouTube channel, the veteran golfer pointed out that he has not played the way he wanted in the last couple of years. He thus expressed his desire to make a strong push this year.

Unfortunately, Mickelson will now have to sit out from the first event of the 2025 calendar. It will be interesting to see if that injury has any effect on his form during the second event – LIV Golf Adelaide which will take place next week.

Phil Mickelson drops strange reason on why LIV Golf will succeed against PGA Tour

The world of golf was left divided when LIV Golf was announced. Since then they and the PGA Tour have been in constant battles to emerge as the ‘best’ tour. Recently, Phil Mickelson dropped a strange reason on why he thinks his tour will succeed against the PGA Tour.

A few days ago, the 54-year-old golfer joined Joe Pompliano, on the Joe Pump Show. During this, he claimed that the fan experience on LIV Golf was better than the PGA Tour.

He would further point out that bringing children on the PGA Tour was troublesome. To help the players concentrate, the parents had to keep their children quiet. Mickelson, who has 45 wins on the PGA Tour, claimed that there is no such issue on LIV Golf.

This take from him brought out some wild reactions from fans. Golf analyst Brandel Chamblee would then come across this take from him and once again blasted him and his tour.

Taking to his X account, Chamblee once again dropped the “murderous regime” take on LIV Golf and slammed the golfer. His attack on the tour and Mickelson later left the fans in split.

So which tour is better? While this remains a topic of debate, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and the PGA Tour and working on a merger deal to unify the game. If the deal goes through, stars of the two tours could play together once again on a single tour.
