In a recent interview with Seattle’s KJR 93.3 FM, Fred Couples talked about a possible reunion between LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka and the PGA Tour. While it might just be a speculation right now, it can happen as Koepka’s contract with the Saudi-backed league is about to expire.

Not only him but also several other LIV Golf players are rumored to be interested in returning to the Tour, including Bryson DeChambeau. However, the recent revelation by Couples on Koepka has angered Phil Mickelson, who went on a rant on social media.

Phil Mickelson slammed Fred Couples‘ move about how he announced to the public about Brooks Koepka’s intention without hearing the narrative straight from him. He said whether the news is true or not, the words should’ve come from the player instead of another person.

If it’s not true he damaged a relationship which he cares about. If it is true he took away Brooks’ control of the timeline and narrative. Either way this is a low class jerk move by Fred.

Couples earlier noted that he speaks with Koepka all the time and “he wants to come back”, as he misses playing in some of the PGA Tour events. Koepka joined LIV Golf back in 2022 for a contract worth more than $100 million.

He didn’t hesitate to admit that he departed from the Saudi-backed league due to huge financial gain. He said that even if he can’t play golf anymore in the future, his family will at least be taken care of. However, with his contract expiration nearing, things might take a turn towards a possible reunion with the PGA Tour.

Will the PGA Tour-LIV Golf deal take place in 2025?

In 2023, the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf announced that they had reached an agreement to end the feud in the golf world. Unfortunately, the unification did not happen, and they are still in discussions about the framework.

So far, there has not been much progress, but with President Donald Trump’s recent intervention in the PGA-LIV unification, things might accelerate. On February 22, the PGA Tour announced that they had a “constructive working session” at the White House and that things are looking positive.

Even Tiger Woods commented that the feud could very well end this year, and it’ll give time for the game to “heal very quickly”. He mentioned how the game has been going in the “wrong direction” and hopes for the fans to see the top players compete in respective events once again for the betterment and advancement of the sport.
