England registered a comfortable win as they brushed aside West Indies in their first game of the Super Eights. Phil Salt played an elemental role, blasting 87 off 47, an unbeaten knock that won him the Player of the Match award as well.

England who are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup as they braved Pakistan in the grand finale of the preceding edition, had a shaky start to the precursor edition of the tournament as well.

However, they turned things around brilliantly to eventually go onto win the trophy. In the group stages of the latest edition of the tournament, they have so far been unbeaten and Salt believes that this win will play a pivotal role in boosting their confidence.

I don't know if you can compare the two but it's definitely the first step in that direction. I've already said, in tournament play you need a bit of luck at the right time and you need to build your momentum and confidence and I feel like that's the first step in the right direction.

The English opener also attributed his terrific knock in the Super Eight clash against West Indies to a prolonged residence in the English squad. He pointed out that staying in the side more has stoked up his panache and made him believe in himself a lot more.

Salt also heaped praises on former West Indies all-rounder, Kieron Pollard, stating that his inclusion to the English side for the tournament has been working wonders as the hard-hitting Caribbean muscleman brings in some detailed insights in the shortest format of the game. He also broke things down about how the calculations in the scoring would eventually be taken into consideration with the number of runs being scored more against a particular bowler from one side while the other end being a more conservative one.

Here’s how England beat West Indies riding high on Phil Salt and his dominance

Batting first, West Indies piled up 180/4. Blitzkriegs from Rovman Powell (36) and Sherfane Rutherford (28*) saw the Islanders pack a powerful punch. Much to their woes, however, Phil Salt just ran away with the game.

The highlight of his innings was his full-blown assault on Romario Shepherd in the 16th over, clobbering him for three fours and three sixes. Salt had assistance from Jos Buttler (25) and Jonny Bairstow (48*) who chimed in with brilliantly orchestrated complimentary knocks, sending West Indies spinning a vortex of chaos.
