The time has finally arrived for the incredible return of Philip Rivers, as the 44-year-old future Hall of Famer appeared in front of reporters as a member of the Indianapolis Colts again.
It was a whirlwind few days for the franchise, which first lost Daniel Jones to a season-ending injury at a time when it was on pace to make its first playoffs in five years. The last time they reached the postseason was, unsurprisingly, when Philip Rivers was under center. Even then, they bowed out in the Wild Card round.
This year feels different. If they can stack a few wins and take the AFC South, their playoff prospects should be far more promising. For that to happen, they need the father of 10 to place them in winning positions.
Philip Rivers has always played with the No. 17 on his back. Now back in the NFL, some figured he might as well go with any available jersey number, as Jones had that number throughout this season.
I texted with Daniel about him being so gracious about 17. That was certainly meaningful to me. Obviously, I didn’t want it to be like this… Him being gracious and saying, ‘Shoot, heck yeah, go for it.’

This adds to the notion that many have had about Daniel Jones, that he is a humble down-to-earth person. Since his season is over, Jones did not care if he had to hold on to that number.
Philip Rivers reveals how his children are excited for comeback
As Philip Rivers gears up to return, many have been wondering how his family, which includes his wife Tiffany, their 10 children, and his grandchild, feels about this experience.

They’ve been very supportive. My younger children are most excited. They are excited cause they don’t remember dad playing… My boys are fired up.

The 8-time Pro Bowler added that his sons, in particular, also shared some concerns, as their father was about to come back and play after 5 years away from the sport.

Their concerns are legitimate, as the game has become faster, and they, as do most of the fans and analysts, are waiting to see how Rivers will adjust to this new era of the NFL.
At least his oldest daughters are excited, as they have been with him throughout his journey as a professional football player, and are now about to see him stage a comeback with a solid playoff-capable team.
Philip Rivers is preparing to start against Seahawks
As Philip Rivers practices for the first time since 2020, there are questions about whether he will start against the Seattle Seahawks. At least he is preparing for that possibility.
I’m preparing like that… And if that’s what they feel, we collectively feel, is the best decision, then we’ll go… Me at 30 years old, me at 44 years old, going to Seattle and winning in 2025 in Week 14, or whatever it is, is gonna be tough.
Philip Rivers said
Even though many would like the Colts to play rookie QB Riley Leonard, his knee injury might prevent him from traveling to Seattle. In that case, the new oldest player in the league will start.

There are concerns about how Rivers will handle his first NFL game in five years. Generally, it takes weeks of preparation before an athlete can be considered ready for this league.
But given their circumstances, neither the Colts nor their newest QB can sit around waiting for that day. They have to take the fight to the Seahawks in the hope that they can make it to the playoffs.
