As the Philadelphia Phillies look to bounce back after a disappointing exit from the 2024 postseason, they have started to make a few changes to their team. On Thursday, the team agreed to add Max Kepler to their squad on a one-year $10 million deal.

Kepler’s 10-year stay with the Minnesota Twins came to an end after the end of the season. The outfielder who joined the team back in 2015, missed several games during the 2024 campaign due to injuries in both of his knees.

In the 105 games he played this year, Kepler hit 8 home runs while batting with a splash line of .253/.302/.380. Apart from that, he posted a .682 OPS in 399 plate appearances in his final season with the Twins.

His best year with the team came in 2019. That year he hit 36 home runs and batted in 90 runs as he hit with a .252 batting average. In total, he finished his Twins career with 161 home runs and 508 RBI.

The Phillies have now roped in him. The German international will officially join the National League East champions after he passes his physical examination which is still pending. The team had been looking to add an outfielder after non-tendering Austin Hays in November.

He is now expected to join Nick Castellanos and Brandon Marsh in the outfield. With Juan Soto joining the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves getting Ronald Acuna Jr. and Spencer Strider back from injury, the Phillies at the moment look a little bit weak on paper compared to their division rivals.

After finishing the regular season with a 95-67 record in the regular season, the Philadelphia Phillies struggled to score runs in the postseason. They were eliminated in the NLDS against the New York Mets after losing the series 3-1. That led to fans urging team management to make some big moves in the offseason. The signing of Max Kepler has so far not impressed the fans on social media.

Several users on X once again slammed the team for their moves. While many threw shade at team’s President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski, some trolled the team for signing Kepler. One user pointed out their outfield trio of him, Castellanos, and Marsh and wrote, “This is awful” while reacting to it.

Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

Earlier this month, the Phillies signed right handed pitcher Jordan Romano on a one-year $8.5 million deal. It remains to be seen which other players the team will target in this ongoing offseason.
