The Pittsburgh Pirates are once again having a poor season. The team are currently bottom of the National League Central with a 17-34 record. In the midst of this run, trade rumors regarding their ace pitcher Paul Skenes has flared up. On Thursday, Pirates GM bluntly shut down this rumors.

Skenes has been one of the top stars in baseball since his debut in the MLB last year. The right handed pitcher was drafted as the No.1 pick by the Pirates in 2023 and called up for his official debut last season.

In his first season, the pitcher went on to win the National League Rookie of the Year award. Despite a 3-5 record, Skenes has been one of top performers of the team once again.

Following an 8-5 loss against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, GM Ben Cherington was asked about the prospect of trading Skenes in the press conference. The GM bluntly shut down any rumors regarding him.

No, it’s not part of the conversation at all.

The one big issue this year has been the lack of support for Skenes. This past Sunday, he threw his first career complete game and struck out 9 batters. However, the Pirates still ended up losing 1-0 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Top MLB insider takes brutal jab at Pirates while speaking about trade of Paul Skenes

Paul Skenes was labeled as one of the top pitchers of the future generations. So far, the 22-year-old has lived up to the hype around him. However, his arrival has not brought any change to the fortunes of his team. A top MLB insider recently took a brutal jab at the Pittsburgh Pirates while speaking about the trade of Skenes.

While appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, insider Jeff Passan did not hold back while speaking about this potential trade. The ESPN insider expressed that the NL Central team have not shown any incentives of being ‘worthy’ of a Paul Skenes extension.

What incentive does Paul Skenes have to extend with the Pirates when the Pirates haven’t shown the willingness, from Bob Nutting all the way down, or the ability to bring in guys who are going to make this team better? The Pirates haven’t shown that they are worthy of a Paul Skenes extension at this point.

Skenes will become a free agent in the 2029-30 offseason. While there are chances that the Pirates do not trade their ace pitcher this year, chances will increase next season if things do not change for them.

Ex-NFL star proposes hypothetically Paul Skenes trade deal for New York Yankees

The future of Paul Skenes has become a topic of discussion among MLB fans. While the Pittsburgh Pirates management are not keen to trade away one of their superstars at the moment, a former NFL star has proposed a hypothetically trade deal for the New York Yankees regarding Skenes.

While taking to his X account, former football star and lifelong Yankees fan, Gehrig Dieter, popped up a hypothetical trade. The ex-Kansas City Chiefs star asked the Yankees fans whether they would be willing to trade Jasson Dominguez for Skenes.

Yankee fans, would you include the Martian in a trade package for Paul Skenes?

Nicknamed “The Martian,” Dominguez is having a good time at the plate this season. Following the exit of Juan Soto, he has been placed in the batting lineup and given a role in the outfield.

The 22-year-old has hit 6 home runs this year and driven in 22 runs. He recently hit the Yankees’ first walk-off home run since 2022 against the Texas Rangers.

The Yankees could be one of the teams that would try to get their hands on Skenes. To land him, they could include Dominguez in the trade package. Only time will tell what happens next though.
