After losing to the Los Angeles Rams in the preseason opener, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and RB Ezekiel Elliot stole the show with their new high-five move.

The goofiness comes out in players when they gather together and enjoy themselves—like the Dallas Cowboys players at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles last week. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott’s mood was lighthearted, even though they lost the game.

Prescott and Elliott sat out for this one and let the rookies and the reserve team members in the spotlight. Trey Lance, who never took a snap for the Cowboys despite being on the team since last season, had most of the reps as the Cowboys quarterback on the day.

However, it wasn’t the memorable debut the former first-round pick was hoping for. He did show flashes of brilliance but eventually ended the game with 25 completions from 41 attempts for 188 passing yards and 6 carries for 44 yards as the Cowboys lost 12-13 against the Los Angeles Rams.

The result did not go their way, but it was only the preseason, so the Cowboys players were in a chirpy mood. Prescott waited for his teammates in front of the tunnel leading to their locker room when cameras caught him giving a high five but in a peculiar way.

The veteran QB tapped some of their posterior, and the hilarious part of the clip was Ezekiel Elliott, who intentionally forwarded his behind for Prescott to hit as if he were a ’90s diva. Every team has their own way of greeting, but this was rather a bizarre moment captured on film.

Dak Prescott is happy to be reunited with Ezekiel Elliott

Following the departure of Tony Pollard in the offseason, the Cowboys required a designated #1 running back. They had several on the reserves—Deuce Vaugh, Royce Freeman, and Malik Davis—but none of them seemed to fit the bill.

The Cowboys tried to recruit high-profile names, but their offered salary was too low for their liking. Eventually, they went back to their former RB Elliott, who left the team in 2023 for the New England Patriots, and with a less talented team, recorded more than 900 yards and 5 touchdowns from scrimmage.

We were bad in the red zone last year. We were not at the top of our game, and [Ezekiel Elliott] Zeke's got a nose for getting that ball in. [So] I still think Zeke's gonna be wildly successful.
Cowboys executive VP Stephen Jones said per Yahoo Sports

The Cowboys with Elliott had the league’s best running game with 71.4% red zone trips, which dropped to just 56.34%, 14th in 2023.

What makes it [the Cowboys running game] work is Zeke being a pro. His guy leaves, [he] follows, and he's able to track Micah [Parsons]. Boom, I step up, throw the in-cut backside to Brandin Cooks at the time.

The Cowboys won their second pre-season game in Vegas, but once more, neither Prescott nor Elliott played in the game. They finish off their pre-season campaign with a trip back to LA to face the Los Angeles Chargers next week.
