The Indian women’s cricket team brought an end to the age old drought of an ICC title in women’s cricket. Harmanpreet Kaur‘s team became world champions when they beat South Africa in the final of the ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai.
The Indian team won by 52 runs. South Africa in reply to India’s 298/7 got bundled out for 246, making the host nation first time world champions. To celebrate this joyous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hosted the entire team and had a friendly chat with the players.
The short clip of the chat with the players has been making the rounds on social media, and many have been amused with the detailed knowledge that PM Modi holds about the team.
Sir, the last time we had come to talk to you back in 2017, we didn’t have the winning trophy with us. However, this time around we have won and have come as the champions.

Harmanpreet Kaur reminded PM Modi of the 2017 World Cup final where India was short by 9 runs against England and were denied a chance to lift the trophy. Kaur was a young player back then, and now, being an experienced player and captain of the team, she has scripted glory for the nation.

Modi, in the video, was seen talking about small events in the game that a few of the fans too may have missed. Firstly, he mentioned Deepti Sharma‘s Hanuman (Indian deity) tattoo and asked the athlete about its importance to her. He then pointed out the small details of Kaur putting the ball in her pocket after taking the winning catch.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trophy picture with the Indian team sends out a praiseworthy detail
Indian politicians of the past have been accused of snatching the moment of glory from a sports team of the nation. However, the recent Women’s World Cup winning picture of team India with PM Narendra Modi had a different visual altogether.

The image shows that the current Prime Minister is of a different ideology and would like to keep the sportspersons on a respectable pedestal. The image of PM Narendra Modi posing with the women’s team saw the Prime Minister not even touch the World Cup trophy.

He just stood as an important figure behind it. The trophy was held by Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. The Prime Minister made sure that the athletes who have put their blood and sweat into winning India such a big title should be the ones taking the entire cream of the occasion.
