The Michigan-Ohio State game on Saturday in Columbus witnessed ugly scenes involving the police. Several players screamed in pain after they were doused with pepper spray.

Ohio State went into the game with a BIG 10 Championship appearance on the line. Michigan, on the other hand, wanted the bragging right of beating their great rivals.

The fixture saw four interceptions—two each from both teams’ quarterbacks—as the game ended in a close 13-10 win for the Wolverines. It was Michigan’s fourth straight win over the Buckeyes, and they wanted to show their dominance by planting a flag on the turf.

Ohio State players retaliated after realizing Michigan’s intentions, which led to a massive brawl. Punches kicks, and curse words flared out everywhere until police rushed to put an end to the heated environment.

According to reports, the cops resorted to using pepper spray on players to break the skirmish up. A clip showed a couple of Michigan players screaming in pain due to the effects of the spray on their eyes.

No team likes to lose against their rivals, and certainly not four times in a row. The Buckeyes faced humiliation in front of their own fans, but the ending made the occasion memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Police using pepper spray on players reduced the sanctity of the fixture altogether. Michigan running back Kalel Mullings, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, wasn’t a fan of the ending.

For such a great game, you hate to see stuff like that after the game. It’s just bad for the sport—bad for college football. But at the end of the day, you know some people got to—they got to learn how to lose, man… We had 60 minutes; we had four quarters to do all that fighting.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day observed the entire meltdown on the ground. He revealed that his players were unhappy with how Michigan acted after the final whistle by trying to plant a flag.

There are some prideful guys on our team who weren’t going to sit back and let that happen.

Ryan Day said

According to Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore, the situation was handled poorly.

Rivalry games get heated, especially this one. It’s the biggest one in the country, so we got to handle that better.

Losing to Michigan ended the Buckeyes’ hopes of playing the BIG 10 championship game. Instead of Ohio State, the #1 ranked Oregon Ducks will take on the #4 Penn State Lions to decide the best team in the conference.
