Poor QB class? Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward reportedly would’ve been drafted behind Bo Nix if they were to join NFL last season

NFL GMs believe that the 2025 quarterback class is weak, positioning both Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward behind 2024 draft pick Bo Nix.

Looks like NFL General Managers aren’t too thrilled about the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. Compared to last year, which had one of the best quarterback classes with names like Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake Maye, and even Bo Nix; the 2025 class of quarterbacks isn’t said to have a standing chance against them.

As the NFL Scouting Combine is expected to begin next month in February, Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward are projected to occupy the top picks. The Colorado senior quarterback is also rumored to be the No. 1 projected draft pick by the New York Giants or the Las Vegas Raiders– whoever earns the first pick since both have a pressing need for a quarterback.

As the Scouting Combine approaches closer, The Athletic’s Diana Rusini had an interesting conversation with the NFL General Managers. Comparing Sanders and Ward to the 2024 Class of Quarterbacks, she asked them where they would have fallen if they were part of that class.

They should definitely be behind Bo Nix, in my opinion. I could see people grouping [Michael Penix Jr.], Ward, and Sanders together, but honestly, it’d probably just come down to picking your favorite flavor among the three. None of them really scream ‘franchise QB’ to me.

An anonymous AFC GM said.

Surprisingly, this wasn’t the opinion of just one specific General Manager of the AFC. An NFC GM also responded with a similar opinion of considering the 2025 quarterback as weak, putting both Sanders and Ward behind the 10th overall pick, Nix of the 2024 draft.

Shedeur Sanders sparks controversy by his decision to skip 2025 NFL draft

The 2025 Class of Quarterbacks seems to also have a lot of drama involved, particularly surrounding Colorado’s star quarterback. Despite being projected as the top quarterback prospect and a definite projection among the top five picks, Sanders has refused to attend the 2025 NFL Draft, scheduled in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

He announced the decision on his 2Legendary podcast which is in agreement with his father and Coach Prime Deion Sanders, who would also not be present at the draft. Deion is said to play a huge role in making sure his son lands in a team that would ensure his success in the NFL, even if he had to take unprecedented measures for that.

He shared that the reason behind his absence is the alignment of the NFL draft dates with a special event planned in Colorado. Except for hinting this event as more important for him than the traditional draft ceremony, Shedeur did not give any further details on the subject.
