While things are not looking good for the Chicago White Sox at the moment, they at least have the Pope on their side. In a video gone viral on social, Pope Leo XIV was seen joining the fans in chants of White Sox during a rally in Vatican.
Chicago-native Robert Prevost (Pope Leo XIV) was named as the new head of the Catholic Church in May. He was elected as the new head of the church following the passing of former head, Pope Francis, in April this year.
Following his announcement as the new head, a wild debate sparked among MLB fandom. Both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox claimed that the new Pope was a fan of theirs, and shared a congratulation message towards him.
The American League side would later hit back at their city rivals by sharing a video of Pope’s brother, John Prevost, who claimed that he was a White Sox fan instead of the Cubs.
His allegiance to the team was once again proved this week as he joined in on the chants of “White Sox” by some fans. As his convoy made its way through the street, the 69-year-old was seen waving hands at the crowd.
In this, a section of people started chanting “White Sox“. As he made his way past them, the Pope would join them in those chants leading to huge cheers among the crowd. Check out the video regarding this below:

Pope Leo XIV rocked a White Sox hat last week
Last week, Pope Leo XIV confirmed that he is a Chicago White Sox fan for life. While he did not make any comments, he would rock a White Sox hat during a weekly general audience in the Vatican.

In a video on X, the Pope was seen having a conversation with two people. After shaking hands with the man, the Pope would remove his white hat and put on the black White Sox hat and was thus photographed sporting the cap of his beloved team.

After the picture of him wearing the White Sox cap went, fans would throw in some light-hearted mixed reactions to it. The team on the other hand, dropped a 5-word message on their X account.

The White Sox have also honored him with a new mural in the Rate Field. An artwork featuring him in his regalia, hands raised in a gesture, has been installed down the third-base line on the concourse wall near Section 140.
Above this artwork is a screenshot of the broadcast, which features him watching Game 1 of the World Series and rooting for the White Sox against the Houston Astros. Apart from that, a special customized jersey of No.14 white Pope Leo on the back, has also been established.
White Sox in desperate need of blessing from Pope Leo XIV following another troublesome season
After enduring the worst season in MLB in 2024 and finishing with a 41-121 record, things have not changed much for the Chicago White Sox. Once again, the team are struggling and are in desperate need of some sort of blessing from Pope Leo XIV.

When he was appointed as the Pope, the White Sox had a 10-27 record. Following this, the team did claim some wins, which ignited hopes of a comeback to form. However, their form has dipped again.
On Tuesday, the team got crushed 12-2 by the St. Louis Cardinals. This turned out to be their 50th loss of the season, becoming the second team after the Colorado Rockies to lose 50 games this year.
After 73 games of the 2025 season, the White Sox are 23-50. Since the appointment of Pope Leo, the team has gone 13-23.
FINAL: Cardinals 12, #WhiteSox 2

The 12-2 loss against the Cardinals was their 6th straight loss of the team. With Wednesday’s game being postponed due to rains, they will now play the Cardinals twice on Thursday in a straight doubleheader.
