On Wednesday, a huge mystery regarding the new Pope was solved. Pope Leo XIV was seen sporting a Chicago White Sox cap in Vatican, confirming that he indeed is a White Sox fan. This development sparked some hilarious reactions among fans on social media.

In May, Chicago native Robert Prevost (known as Pope Leo XIV) was named the new Pope. He succeeded Pope Francis as the new head of the Catholic Church following his passing in April this year.

Following the announcement of the Pope, a debate ignited among MLB fans regarding which team he supported. The Chicago Cubs would congratulate him on his selection and shared a message on X.

The post on X featured a picture of their home stadium, Wrigley Field, with a message, “HEY CHICAGO. HE’S A CUBS FAN!” on the board and claimed that he was a Cubs fan.

The White Sox would later take a hilarious swipe at their city rivals by sharing a video of Pope Leo XIV’s brother, John Prevost, who claimed that he (The Pope) had always been a White Sox supporter.

On Wednesday, images of the Pope rocking a White Sox cap went viral on social media. This confirmed the theories of some fans that he indeed is a White Sox fan and does not root for their city rivals, the Chicago Cubs.

The White Sox would reshare the same image of Pope Leo XIV and drop a 5-word message on their X account.

After he was announced as the new Pope, an old image of him also went viral online. The photo featured him at the Rate Field watching the White Sox take on the Houston Astros in the 2005 World Series.

White Sox recently honored Pope Leo XIV with a new mural

On May 8th, the Catholic church would get a new head as white smoke rose above the Sistine Chapel, signaling the election of Pope Leo XIV. A few days after his election, the Chicago White Sox would honor him with a new mural at the Rate Field.

The American League Central side would immortalize the new Pope with a beautiful mural in their home stadium. An artwork featuring Pope Leo XIV in his regalia, hands raised in a gesture, was installed down the third-base line on the concourse wall near Section 140.

Above the artwork was a screenshot of a broadcast featuring him watching Game 1 of the World Series against the Astros. A special customized No.14 jersey with the name Pope Leo on the back was also installed.

That series was a memorable one for the White Sox as they went on to sweep their opponents to win the World Series for a third time in their history. Since then, they have not made it to the Fall Classic and are currently declining in form. Perhaps with the support of the Pope, the fortunes of the team could start changing.
