British tennis ace Emma Raducanu is going through a lean phase. Since her title-winning performance at the 2021 US Open, she has not been able to win any major title. Injuries have also plagued the 21-year-old’s progress.

With Raducanu struggling to stay afloat on the tour, the many sponsorship deals that came her way after the US Open win are slowly fading away. For example, the Briton’s contract with the German automobile giant Porsche hit a roadblock with her popularity on the decline. Her beautiful 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet was reportedly been taken away.

This means that Raducanu is forced to go back to driving her Dacia Sandero, which the tennis star bought just days before the coronavirus pandemic four years ago. Raducanu had spent £5,000 for the vehicle shortly after she had passed her driving test. The Briton has special feelings attached to this car as she revealed back in 2021.

My dad is Romanian and a Dacia was his first car. So, yeah, I have a white Dacia Sandero. It was funny, I passed my test three days before the first lockdown and we sort of knew it was going into lockdown, so we needed to buy a car ASAP. I bought it second-hand for £5,000. I take care of her. I’m never going to get rid of it.

Emma Raducanu told The Sun

This was Raducanu’s first car and thus has a special place in her heart. The WTA ace has been spotted driving the Dacia Sandero on several occasions recently. Although Raducanu does not have a Porsche anymore, she is still the global brand ambassador for the automobile giant.

The setbacks are just not stopping for Emma Raducanu. While she has had to let go of her beautiful car, Raducanu was also unable to compete at the Wuhan Open. She retired from her match against Daria Kasatkina at the Korea Open due to a sprained ligament.

Raducanu then announced that she won’t be able to play at the China Open as her injury needed time to heal. The recovery period got extended and she did not feature in the list of participants at the Wuhan Open as well. Currently, there is no update on when the Briton plans to return to action.

The only update from Raducau recently was about attending the Frieze Art Fair in London’s Regent Park on Wednesday (October 9). The 21-year-old was spotted alongside British actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Raducanu shared a post on social media after the event.

Raducanu has played 14 tournaments in the 2024 season with a win-loss record of 20-13. She has had to deal with a number of injuries since her US Open triumph. The Brit was restricted to just nine matches last year due to surgeries on both of her hands and left ankle.
