John Cena shocked the entire WWE Universe when he returned at Money in the Bank. However, when he delivered the surprising news of his retirement, nobody could believe what had just happened. In what could be some of Cena’s last matches of his career, reports revealed the possibility of him winning his record 17th world title.
Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio noted that John Cena could certainly go for the championship. He further stated that the Leader of the Cenation was fully committed to next year’s Royal Rumble and Elimination Chamber. The veteran journalist said that he could easily see him breaking Ric Flair‘s record for the most championships.
Meltzer added that if the match between Cody Rhodes and The Rock for the title at WrestleMania 41 was confirmed, then Cena would definitely go for the other title. He revealed that Big Match John might want that to happen, but WWE certainly wanted to market him as the greatest wrestler of all time, with the most number of titles held.
The Doctor of Thugonomics last appeared at WrestleMania XL to help The American Nightmare win against Roman Reigns. Not only that, on the following night on Raw, he came out to help The Miz and R-Truth defeat The Judgment Day in a six-man tag team match. Nonetheless, fans are eagerly awaiting his next appearance after the major announcement.
Baron Corbin expressed his desire to have a match with John Cena
Several superstars reacted to the news of one of the greatest wrestlers of all time retiring on social media. They all sent him messages, including SmackDown star Baron Corbin. The Lone Wolf recently made his comeback to the main roster after the 2024 WWE Draft.
The former NXT Tag Team Champion took to social media and expressed his desire to have another match with Big Match John before he retires. Cena revealed that he plans to do 30 to 40 dates in 2025 and clarified that he would not retire at WrestleMania 41. This could very well mean that Corbin might be eyeing a match with The GOAT.
