Chelsea had some very good spells of possession with Havertz and Mount operating as two number 8’s. N’golo Kante slotted into his preferred DM position and did a fine job. Ben Chilwell has an early penalty appeal turned against him as Brownhill pushed him into the net. The referee paid no head and play continued.

Chelsea found the net via Hakim Ziyech’s effort in the 28th minute. Ziyech started off the move and cut the ball back in for Werner. Werner squared it up for Tammy Abraham who cushioned the ball for Ziyech. Hakim struck the ball beautifully and Pope was left stranded.

The blues had another good chance after a sublime ball from Mount to found Reece James on the right. James swung in a low cross for Werner but Burnley defender Long managed to put in a leg. However Werner was offside anyway but it was extremely close.

Second Half

Timo Werner

The blues had to soak up a lot of pressure at the start of the second half as Burnley attacked them. However that was soon released as Kurt Zouma leaped highest to Mason Mount’s corner. The French international bullied his marker to head the ball in past Pope.

Chelsea looked fluid in their attacking moves with both fullbacks coming into the play. Reece James came racing up the pitch to find Hakim Ziyech. He in turn glided in to give a lovely through ball to Werner. One touch and shot and Chelsea were up 3-0. It’s a lovely controlled finish from the German.
