Chelsea vs Liverpool ends 0-2 in favour of the Reds. Second half goals from Sadio Mane ensure 3 points for Liverpool. A horrendous Kepa mistake let’s Chelsea down.

The match saw the home debuts for German pair Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. Thiago Alcantara too made his debut for Liverpool.

First Half

Frank Lampard started with Werner Havertz and Mount up front for Chelsea. Liverpool looked the dominant side right from the off-set. However the first good chance fell for Timo Werner who was freed on the left side by Alonso. However Werner could not get past Fabinho.

Trent Alexander Arnold and Mohammed Salah combined beautifully in the right hand side. Lovely interchange and the cross from Alexander Arnold is blocked. Misjudged cross from Kepa Arrizabalaga and Firmino was in. Christensen does well to cover. Kovacic on the move and some smooth passing from Kai Havertz and he is on his way ! However Havertz is off side and Werner’s shot is wide.

The first half ends with Andreas Christensen getting the red card. Sadio Mane through on goal and Christensen lunges in from behind. After consulting VAR referee gives red. Chelsea down to ten men.

SECOND HALF

Liverpool make a change as they bring on Thiago Alcantara. Chelsea too have a substitution. Kai Havertz is sacrificed and Fikayo Tomori comes on. Some lovely interchange of passing from Liverpool and Sadio Mane opens the scoring. Roberto Firmino and Mohammed Salah combine at the edge of the box. Firmino makes a run and Salah finds him inch perfect. The cross from Firmino is accurate and Mane with a diving header across-the- goal.

The second goal was shambles for Chelsea. Kepa Arrizabalaga made a horrible pass inside his own box. Mane was quick to ounce on it and smash it into the net. Absolutely horrendous play from the world’s most expensive goalkeeper. A casual pass at such a high level cannot be accepted.

Mason Mount with a lovely dipping effort. However the balls just goes over the bar. Chelsea do get a penalty in the 74th minute. Jorginho steps up to take it and Alisson saves ! However a strong hand from the Brazilian to deny Chelsea any hope. Sums it up for Chelsea today. Good chances created but no end result. Match ends 2-0.
