Premier League 2020: Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Match Report

Kai Havertz celebrates

Chelsea returned to winning ways in the Premier League with a comprehensive performance against Crystal Palace on Saturday night. Christian Pulisic scored two with Kai Havertz and Kurt Zouma adding the rest as they won 4-1.

First Half

Chelsea made a change at the back with Kurt Zouma coming in for Andreas Christensen. Other than that Christian Pulisic came into the side in place of Timo Werner with Kai Havertz.

With just eight minutes on the clock, Kai Havertz hit the bullseye for the visitors. This was Havertz’s first premier league goal since October 16th last year. A much awaited goal which will give him relief.

Havertz played multiple passes with Callum Hudson Odoi and Mason Mount before twisting inside the penalty box and firing in a shot with his left foot. The blues were in terrific form and scored another just two minutes later.

The Blues were ruthless and clinical with the finishing. Mount found Havertz from the right for the first, before the German turned provider for Pulisic minutes later.

Kurt Zouma then secured his fifth goal of the season with a bullet header from Mason Mount’s free kick. A bullet header which gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Second Half

Unlike the first half crystal palace tried to play more positive football in the second half. This resulted in Belgian international Christian Benteke heading one in. A neat move from the Palace players and Benteke headed in from Schlupp’s cross.

Kai Havertz once again tested the goalkeeper Guaita but this time he was up to it. Havertz fired in a powerful low shot and Guaita palmed it away well.

Thomas Tuchel made two quick defensive changes with N’golo Kante and Reece James coming in for Jorginho and Callum Hudson Odoi respectively.

The blues put the final nail in the coffin with Christian Pulisic’s second goal of the game. Reece James mase an instant impact after coming on and delivered a first time cross for Pulisic to tap home.
