Arsenal

Bernd Leno (7/10)

Can’t really say that he was at fault for both the goals as they were due to defensive fragilities. The German stopper pulled off a breathtaking save in the closing minutes of the game to deny Lukaku his second of the night.

Cedric Soares (5/10)

Marcus Alonso gave a bit of a torrid time to Cedric as he lost many duels and thus could not offer much going forward. However, as the game progressed he became more stable.

Rob Holding (5/10)

Holding had a remarkable chance to score from a close range after remaining unmarked. Romelu Lukaku had a bit of a field day against him.

Pablo Mari (5/10)

Collectively Arsenal rearguard failed to prevent a threat from Lukaku and co and Mari was a part of it. Failed to cope up with the pace o Chelsea’s attacking unit.

Kieran Tierney (6/10)

One of the better performers in the Arsenal defense. However, fell short to cope with the intensity at times and lost many duels with Reece James. Made some good runs going forward in the second half and let the crowd going for some time.

Albert Sambi Lokonga (7/10)

The Belgian had a decent home debut. Offered a bit of stability and creativity as well in the middle of the park for the Gunners.

Granit Xhaka (6/10)

Xhaka was a steady and composed figure in the center. However, could not offer much in the attack.

Nicolas Pepe (6.5)

The Ivorian looked like a threat from the wing, especially on the counter-attacks. He was caught offside on many occasions. However, the end product was lacking yet again in the big matches.

Emile Smith Rowe (7/10)

Arsenal’s new no.10 was a bright figure who constantly tried to make things happen. However, many times were outclassed by much more experienced Chelsea midfield boasting Jorginho and Kovacic.

Bukayo Saka (6/10)

Saka pulled some good shots to cheer the crowd a bit but nothing much more than that. He had some tough battles with Cesar Azpillicueta.

Gabriel Martinelli (6/10)

Started the game with a striker spearheading the front line but looked more of a threat when shifting on the wings. Looked off the pace at times battling out with the Chelsea defense.

Substitutes

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (6/10)

Aubameyang’s return is a big positive for Arsenal today. Looked more likely to find the back of the net but did not receive much of a service and the game had already been put to the bed.

Nuno Tavares (6/10)

Sent some good long balls through the Chelsea defense after coming on. However, didn’t have much time to do.

Chelsea

Edouard Mendy – 8/10

Commanding presence between the sticks. Pulled some really good saves from long-range efforts by Smith Rowe and Saka. Further, his distribution was also eye-catching.

César Azpilicueta – 8/10

Won a number of battles with the Arsenal front line especially with Bukayo Saka. Some good forward-looking passes and link-up with the midfield were also very sharp.

Andreas Christensen – 8/10

Partnered well with Rudiger. Christensen was a calm and composed figure on the day and his aerial presence was immense.

Antonio Rüdiger – 7/10

Similar to Andreas Christensen, a composed figure at the heart of Chelsea’s defense. Did well to nullify the threats from Martinelli and Saka.

Reece James – 9/10

A night to remember for the right-back. He scored with a brilliant finish and also assisted Lukaku’s first.

Marcos Alonso – 8/10

Done well to keep Pepe at tye bay. Alonso appears to be a key figure in Tuchel’s plan after a second successive start.

Jorginho – 8/10

Composed and authoritative as usual. Contributed a lot to defense while maintaining stability in the middle of the park.

Mateo Kovacic – 7/10

Had a lot of space to make things happen in the center. Physically he was immense and partnered well with Jorginho.

Mason Mount – 8/10

On a day of highs for the Blues, their young jewel in the crown shined too! Showed a great vision to pick up the pockets and supply a service to the final third.

Kai Havertz – 7/10

One of the big positives was the German linked up well their new big-money signing. Made some good runs down the flank and appeared to be a goal-scoring threat many times.

Romelu Lukaku – 9/10

Dream debut for Romelu Lukaku. He had an absolute field day at the Emirates. Opened his account with a close-range finish from a cross by James. Almost scored his second in the latter stages of the game.

Substitutes

Chelsea

N’golo Kante (7/10)

Slotted well into the midfield after coming on. Few good interceptions and tackles.

Hakim Ziyech (5/10)

Had a good opportunity in the end and chose to do it by himself but his shot was blocked. didn’t have enough time to do the things.
