Premier League: Aston Villa vs Brighton player ratings as Aston Villa bag a 2-0 win

In an entertaining match which took place at the Villa Park, Aston Villa under their new coach, Steven Gerrard earned victory by defeating Wolves in the last 10 minutes of the game by goals of Watkins and Mings.Villa were in control of the possession at the start with Nakambe and McGinn dictating the play.

The first half was evenly distributed and both Villa and Wolves had their chances but Villa had the slightly better chances. Villa started the second half rather slowly with Ings and Watkins asking questions from the Brighton defence.

Match was looking over until Watkins stepped up and scored a screamer for Villa .After that Mings added the second through a corner after a mix up between the Brighton defence.

Aston Villa

Emiliano Martinez (GK) (7/10) The Aston Villa goalkeeper didn’t have much to do and was sturdy and made an excellent save in the first half. He couldn’t do anything for the three goals.

Ezri Konsa (7.5/10)Konsa looked solid from the start from Aston Villa. His presence gave confidence to Villa who bossed the defence today alongside Mings.

Tyrone Mings(9/10)Mings was solid and ever lively for Aston Villa. Passed well and dictated the play from the centre brilliantly. His positioning was perfect and scored a brilliant goal to double Villa’s lead.

Jacob Ramsey(7.5/10)Ramsey made some positive passes into the midfield for Aston Villa and played sleekly with holding the ball well and intercepting Brighton passes.He was able to control Bissouma.

Matthew Cash(8/10)Cash was solid at the back and was very creative going forward today. His attacking runs, clever in-balls were a constant threat.His form has been excellent and would be beneficial for Villa in the coming games.

Matt Targett(7.5/10)Targett was brilliant today. His sleek and accurate passes helped maintain possession and was lively on the wings . Both the wing backs were brilliant today.

Marvelous Nakamba(7/10)Nakamba was playing the number 10 role brilliantly in the first half but dipped in the second half with losing possession and making lazy passes. Looked bright in the first half but was substituted later.

John McGinn(8/10)McGinn was the one of the best players for Villa today with some impressive switch balls and through balls. His passing was intricate and he was the controlling force in the Villa midfield.

Emiliano Buendia(7/10)Buendia had an average game with some bright chances in between the game which he squandered . He was a bit off today but was crucial in linking the Villa play.

Ollie Watkins(9/10)Watkins was the best player on the pitch. After a shaky start Watkins was creating multiple problems with his skills,pace and runs. He grabbed a wonderful goal to give Villa the lead.

Danny Ings(8/10)Ings was decent today with his link up playf. His clever runs were making spaces for his teammates which they took brilliantly.

Anwar El Ghazi (N/A)

Ashley Young (7/10)Replaced Buendia in the 74th minute and did a decent job for Aston Villa by performing his duty with rotating the ball well. Got some minutes under his belt.

Leon Bailey (7.5/10)Replaced Ings and gave a new life to Villa with his fresh legs and looked dangerous. Should have started the game with that type of performance.

Brighton

Jason Steele (GK) (7.5/10)Steele made some fine stops especially near the post against Watkins and Ings and was sturdy throughout the game.

Tariq Lamptey(8/10)Lamptey was decent with the passing and made promising runs in behind which were a constant threat to Villa.Lamptey’s pace was looking dangerous for Villa.

Lewis Dunk(7/10)Dunk was solid and made important blocks and passed well. He was involved in the attacking play too.

Shane Duffy(7.5/10)Duffy was ever solid at the back and neutralised the Villa attack with elegance. He looked shaky sometimes but dealt with the pressure brilliantly.

Marc Cucurella(7.5/10)Cucurellal looked sharp from the start and remained calm and composed and made attacking chances which troubled Villa. His presence helped Brighton remain undeterred.

Adam Webster(7/10)Webster was solid in defending as well as in attacking. Made a few important interceptions which helped retrieve possession

Yves Bissouma(7.5/10)Bissouma was playing well and was rotating possession really well. Tackled cleanly and made a few important interventions and his over-the-top balls were a constant menace to the Villa defence.

Pascal Grob (7/10)Grob was quiet and made little effort in the press. His touches were poor and could have been better. He needs to improve if he has to be a regular in the team.

Adam Lallana(7.5/10)Lallana was tidy in possession and made important blocks which were important and tidy. Though he made some silly fouls. His positioning was immaculate.

Leandro Trossard(7/10)Trossard had a rather poor game today with this sloppy passing. Looked bright in some moments but was poor to his standards.

Jakub Moder(7/10)Moder was making runs in behind the defenders but could not contribute significantly to the game. He would not be pleased with the result and would hope to find his form.

Substitutes

Solly March(7/10)March was impactful today with his smart positioning and clever passes which troubled the slow legs of the Villa defence.
