Ex-Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf labeled the Blues as a ‘disgrace’, while suggesting that the club may never win the Premier League title again. This follows the club’s disappointing pre-season under new manager Enzo Maresca.
The Blues’ fortunes have declined since the departure of former owner Roman Abramovich, under whom they achieved massive success. Chelsea has struggled to maintain its winning ways despite significant investments in new transfers. Following a disappointing sixth-place finish last season, Chelsea replaced manager Mauricio Pochettino with Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as the new head coach.
Ex-Chelsea and French star Frank Leboeuf, in a recent interview, criticized the club’s ‘misguided’ transfer strategies and ‘lack’ of leadership. He argued that while the current squad has talent, it lacks experienced players, which is problematic for the new manager. Moreover, he asserted that Chelsea in its current ‘disgraceful’ state, is unlikely to win the Premier League and suggested that the club needs to make significant changes.
I think it’s kind of a disgrace to see what we are seeing. It's possible that Chelsea can win a cup, like the FA Cup this season potentially, but never the Premier League. No way.Frank Leboeuf on Chelsea under Enzo Maresca (via The Sun)

The Blues last claimed the EPL title in the 2016-17 season and their most recent trophies were the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2021. The club now looks to their new Italian manager to reverse their fortunes.
Frank Leboeuf slams Chelsea for ‘shameful’ decision to sell N’Golo Kante
Ex-Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf slammed the Blues’ decision to sell midfielder N’Golo Kante last summer, labeling it as ‘shameful’. Kante was transferred to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad after a season plagued by injuries in 2022-23.
Kante was surprisingly included in France’s squad at the 2024 Euros, where he performed brilliantly. His recent Euro display led Frank Leboeuf to criticize Chelsea for its decision to part ways with experienced players, including Kante and Thiago Silva. Moreover, he argued that the club’s inconsistent approach is negatively impacting their ability to compete at the highest level.
We need to sign spine players, look at what N’Golo Kante is doing at the Euros, it’s shameful why we’re getting rid of these players. There’s no consistency and we also got rid of Thiago Silva.Frank Leboeuf on Chelsea’s decision to sell experienced players (via BoyleSports)
Despite significant investments in new midfielders such as Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, and Christopher Nkunku, the Blues have continued to struggle in midfield.
