Manchester United defeated Leeds United by 4-2 as they continue to push for top four

Manchester United locked horns with Leeds United at Elland Road as the Red Devils look for a second successive win in the Premier League. This fixture holds big importance for Manchester United as they fight for the top four and their two rivals for the same in Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal won their respective games yesterday.

Manchester United were leading at the break by goals from Maguire and Fernandes. However, Leeds scored in quick succession in the second of courtesy of Rodrygo and Rafinha. The away side kept knocking on the door and super-sub Fred scored immediately after coming off the bench. Further Elanga’s goal in the end put the game to the bed.

David De Gea 7/10

Forshaw won the ball back and hit it with power but De Gea made a good diving save. He wasn’t at fault for both of Leeds’ goal as first one was a bit fortunate while the second one was a defensive error. His distribution was overall good.

Aaron Wan Bissaka 6/10

He had a difficult time with James in certain moments in the game. However his series of successive tackles were impressive. He won the ball in crucial moments on his wing.

Harry Maguire 7/10

Despite some recent criticism, Ragnick decided to deploy Harry Maguire and the Englishman was effective in some parts of the game. He scored the first goal connecting with Shaw’s delivery from the corner. However he misjudged James’ cross which led to a goal.

Victor Lindelof 7/10

Lindelof was very good in carrying the ball forward and general distribution. He helped his side in starting the move for the second goal. He lost a ground duel with Rodrigo but he could not capitalize on it.

Luke Shaw 6.5/10

He defensively got caught at times by Raphinha and Rodrigo but his recoveries were good at times. He provided an assist for Harry Maguire’s goal.

Scott McTominay 6.5/10

He committed a needless foul in the second half as he stepped on the feet and was fortunate not to be suspended. He lacked the pace to contribute to the transitional moments. However his physical presence helped his team in midfield.

Paul Pogba 6.5/10

He was trying to make the things tick in the middle of the park but the final pass was lacking. He was substituted for Fred.

Bruno Fernandes 7.5/10

The Portuguese midfielder was very lively throughout the game creating many chances for Ronaldo and co. He scored by himself in the dying minutes of the first half. He connected with Sancho’s chip and scored with the headed finish.

Jesse Lingard 6.5/10

He was dropping in midfield at times to control the tempo. He created a good chance for Sancho on the right wing but he could not dispatch it.

Jadon Sancho 7.5/10

Sancho was one of the best players on the pitch. He chipped the ball perfectly for Bruno to score. Further he also assisted Fred for United’s third goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo 6.5/10

Ronaldo had a very good opportunity to score from a close range but Meslier saved. He was good in linkup play at times but could not a direct goal contribution.

Substitutes:

Fred: 7.5/10

Fred was very effective as a substitute as he scored with a lightning left footed finish from the left flank. His passing was efficient and he carried the ball well.

Anthony Elanga 6/10

Sancho sent a neat low pass to him on the right wing but Elanga could bot finish it off. He helped in building the play but did not get direct contribution. He scored connecting with Bruno’s pass to put the game to the bed.

Meslier 6.5/10

Meslier made a very good save as dived across to deny Ronaldo his goal from close range. His distribution was decent at times. However, he should have done better to cover the near post when Fred scored with a lightning shot from the close range.

Luke Ayling 6/10

He was very good in going forward as he carried the ball well. He had a good little exchange with Koch. However he left the space too open at times which helped United to score.

Struijk 6/10

He had some real difficulties in dealing with Bruno and co. Some of his positional plays did not work in the way he thought. Elanga and Fernandes got the better of him at times.

Diego Llorente 6/10

His clearances kept Leeds in the game at times but he lost some crucial ground duels with Sancho who created many good opportunities on the pitch.

Stuart Dallas 6.5/10

He was effective in one on one defending at times as he won seven duels out of nine. However he could not go forward much which put limits on Leeds’ attacks from his wing.

Robin Koch 6/10

Koch could not continue to play as he suffered an injury. He was substituted for Firpo.

Jack Harrison 6/10

Quite similar to Dallas he did his defending well at times. However he misjudged Elanga and Sancho’s movement which led to goal. Further he had very little contribution in going forward.

Mateusz Klich 6/10

He tried his luck by taking the shot from long range; however, it went over the bar. He gave some good lobbed balls forward in order to contribute to the attack.

Adam Forshaw 6.5/10

He helped his team defensively through good interceptions and recoveries. Further at times he got into some good positions which helped Leeds to build the attacks.

Daniel James 6.5/10

Former Manchester United player was lively from the flanks. His little work from left side put him in a better position to cross and his cross was met by Raphinha.

Rodrygo 7/10

He didn’t enjoy much of the ball in first half but he was trying to make things happen. His cross from the left went in the back of the net whihc provided a little bit of boost for Leeds.

Substitutes:

Junior Firpo 7/10

He was one of the most lively Leeds player on the pitch. He came on for Koch and settled very well. He was trying to combine with attack and dropped deep when needed.

Rafinha 7/10

The Brazilian always looked a threat and scored from close range meeting James’ cross.
