Manchester City vs Brentford Player Ratings
Manchester City
Ederson (7/10): The Brazilian keeper was a mere spectator for most of the match. However, he did pull off two brilliant saves when called up in each half.
Aymeric Laporte (7/10): A solid display from the Spanish centre-back. Hardly put a foot wrong during the match and showed his attacking presence during City’s set-pieces.
Rúben Dias (7/10): The Portuguese defender did not have much defending to do as his side controlled most of the play. His passing was exceptional as he switched the point of attack often and showed his aerial presence in corner kicks.
João Cancelo (7.5/10): Cancelo spent most of the match inside the attacking half. He went close to scoring a goal himself and made some brilliant runs down the left flank.
John Stones (7.5/10): The English defender did an excellent job of adapting to the demands of a new position. He was secure in possession and looked easy on the eye.
Rodri (7/10): Rodri stood like a rock in front of City’s defenders and also fancied scoring a goal or two when his side attacked down the middle. He had a decent shot on goal from outside the box saved brilliantly by David Raya.
Bernardo Silva (7/10): Silva looked flawless in his display in midfield. The Portuguese midfielder rotated all over the pitch combining with the forwards brilliantly.
Kevin De Bruyne (8/10): A timeless performance from the Belgian wizard. He scored the second goal of the match finishing into an empty net and was a constant threat in attack.
Phil Foden (6.5/10): Foden made himself a nuisance inside the penalty box. However, his inadequate aerial ability did not allow him to get on the end of a few crosses.
Raheem Sterling (7/10): The winger had a field day on City’s left flank. He showed his pace and won the penalty expertly with his dribbling skills.
Riyad Mahrez (7/10): Mahrez scored the penalty for City to give them the lead. He had Brentford’s right back pinned in defence and showed off his wide array of attacking moves.
Substitutes
Jack Grealish (6.5/10): Grealish came to replace Phil Foden for the final half-hour of the match. He had a couple of chances to get a goal for himself but failed to get the final shot on target.
Ilkay Gundogan (6.5/10): Gundogan came on for the final 10 minutes and added more energy in midfield.
Brentford
David Raya (5/10): The Spanish keeper showcased his presence of mind as he kept on denying the Manchester City forwards to create any major dangers inside the box. However, he made a clinical mistake in the match and ended up conceding two goals in the match.
Pontus Jansson (6/10): The Swedish centre back could have been better to mark players and intercept the ball. Jansson still made some clinical clearances especially utilising his header during set-pieces.
Ethan Pinnock (6.5/10): The Jamaican centre back made some clean interceptions and clearances and was pretty strong on duels to keep the Blues shirts away from making any major threat.
Kristoffer Ajer (6.5/10): The Norwegian centre back was sensational in the match as he made some clinical interceptions and clearances. Ajer was quick enough to give a tough fight to Sterling on the right and as strong on the duels.
Mathias Jensen (6/10): The Danish midfielder made some good interceptions near the edge of the box but failed multiple times to provide the final forward ball to make a successful counterattack. Jensen should have been more composed and accurate with his passing.
Frank Onyeka (6/10): The Nigerian midfielder was decent throughout the game and provided strong defensive support to Brentford at the back and made some clinical blocks and interceptions.
Christian Norgaard (6/10): The Danish midfielder was on point with his passes and was very vigilant at the back as he chased to intercept the ball and move it forward for some quick counterattacks.
Rico Henry (6.5/10): The English left-back was very strong throughout the game as he was strong like a wall making some clean and clear blocks and clearances. Henry was also active on the attack as he made some surging runs from the left side of the pitch to provide some clinical crosses inside the box.
Mads Roerslev (5/10): The Danish right-back was not up to the mark in the game as he kept on creating gaps and was also responsible for conceding the penalty which turned out to be a vital turning point in the final result of the match.
Saman Ghoddos (5/10): The Iranian striker was not up to the mark in the game as he failed to make a sturdy impact in Brentford’s attacking play. Ghoddos was also sloppy in possession and could have been a little better with his passes upfront.
Sergi Canós (5/10): The Spanish forward was not able to provide any sturdy impact in the match even though he tried to create some good attacking play upfront in the pitch. Canós could have been better and more aggressive in the final third.
Substitute
Josh Dasilva (5.5/10): The English midfielder came in at the hour mark and did not have much of an impact as Brentford did not see much of the ball. Dasilva provided good support to Brentford at the backline.
Bryan Mbeumo (5/10): The French forward with his freshly injected energy into the pitch tried to make some dangerous run-up front but failed to come with the much needed final result.
