Premier League : Manchester United vs Newcastle United

It’s the home game for Manchester United at Old Trafford as they take on Newcastle United in their quest to reclaim their top spot in the Premier League leaderboard.

It was the perfect start for United as Ronaldo scored the opening goal on his return, courtesy of a rebound. It was later equalized by Javier Manquillo. However as the match proceeded, a beautiful assist by Luke Shaw gave Ronaldo his second goal of the match. It was then made 3-1 by Bruno Fernandes off a magnificent out-of-the-box goal in the right corner of the goal.

Lingard added icing to the cake as he scored the fourth goal in the final seconds of the match to make it overall 4-1 and add three valuable points. With this emphatic win, let’s look at how the players performed.

David de Gea (GK) (6.4/10) : De Gea had a fantastic game except for the one goal that he conceded. He made couple of really good saves for his side.

Luke Shaw (7.8/10) : Luke Shaw made one of the best assists in today’s game which gave Ronaldo his second goal. Shaw also did a fantastic job at keeping the ball away from the box

Aaron Wan-bissaka (7.7/10) : Aaron won four tackle battles and he also made some valuable interceptions and clearances to help keep the match in their possession.

Harry Maguire (6.9/10) : Maguire did have plenty of work in the defence as he made several valuable clearances and did a great job with the others.

Raphael Varane (7.6/10) : Varane was invincible with his Ariel duels as he managed to win them all and he made several clearances and interceptions.

Paul Pogba (7/10) : Pogba has been excellent with his assist skills and he has been doing a fine job with his dribbling and pasing. He gave a valuable assist that got Manchester United, one of their three goals.

Nemanja Matic (7.2/10) : Matic had a good go at goal from outside the box but he was way off target and missed it by miles.

Mason Greenwood (6.7/10) : Greenwood had two shots on target but failed on both occasions. However, he has had a really good game. He’s been excellent with his pace and dribbling.

Bruno Fernandes (8/10) : Bruno scored a magnificent goal today from outside of the box, curling in and makes it 3-1 for United. A simple assist by Pogba and a magnificent finish.

Jadon Sancho (5.8/10) : Sancho had a terrible game today. He had 8 ground duel battles and he just managed to win a single one while losing possesion on 12 occasions.

Cristiano Ronaldo (8.5/10) : It is his first game after a decade for Manchester United and he lives up to the expectations of his teammates and fans as he scores the opening goal for United. A shot by Greenwood was stopped by the keeper but a rebound helped Ronaldo bag the goal. He then doubled his tally by helping score another goal off Shaw’s assist.

Substitutes

Jesse Lingard (7.9/10) : This match sums up to be a memorable match for Lingard as he managed to to get his first United goal before full time whistle.

Donny van de Beek (6.5/10) : Just came in 85th minute of the game but couldn’t do much with the match as he barely got any touches on the ball

Anthony martial (6.3/10) : Martial came in and he was a part of the scenario that gave Jesse Lingard his first United goal. However, he did look good with pace.

Newcastle United

Newcastle United vs Southampton

Freddie Woodman (GK) (5.6/10) : This match turned out to be the worst for Freddie as he conceded as many four goals which cost Newcastle three crucial points.

Javier Manquillo (7.9/10) : Javier was the life saviour for Newcastle as he scored the equaliser for them but the match slipped badly as they conceded three goals.

Isaac Hayden (6.3/10) : Hayden had a tough day at office as it was difficult to keep the ball in their possession. He lost it on many occasions and the defence gradually fell apart.

Jamaal Lascelles (7.9/10) : Jamaal had a brilliant match out of all the defenders as he made as many as six clearances and made several successful tackles and interceptions.

Ciaran Clark (6.2/10) : A below par performance for Clark. He did a decent job with keeping the possession but couldn’t help his team from losing.

Matt Ritchie (6.5/10) : Couldn’t do a great job with ground tackles but certainly made several clearances and interceptions that helped his side but not to the greatest extents.

Miguel Almirón (6.8/10) : He made a great pass that helped convert it into the equaliser. He also had a beautiful chance at goal but was denied by defence.

Joseph Willock (8.1/10) : He had an exceptional time in the field. He also had a beautiful time with winning the ball. He had a chance at goal twice. At once he was off target and at once he was on target but denied.

Sean Longstaff (6.6/10) : Apart from keeping possession with himself, he had an excellent time by winning ground battles but not very successful compared to the result

Joelinton (6.5/10) : Despite having three chances at goal, he was denied on all occasions. He was off target twice while denied opportunity being on target.

Allan Saint-Maximin (7.2/10) : He had made the valuable assist to bring in the equaliser and also won some really good ground challenges.

Jamal Lewis (6.2/10) : Didn’t have any more than 6 minutes of gameplay and couldn’t contribute alot to the match.

Jeff Hendrick (6.4/10) : Came in to the 85th minute and barely made any touches. He did make some passes but wasn’t worth any.

Jacob Murphy (6.3/10) : Jacob too didn’t get a lot of time on field but he did make the most of the time he got winning a couple of ground duels.
