Premier League: Newcastle United vs Leeds United player ratings as both teams bag a point each in the 1-1 draw

Newcastle United were all set to take on Leeds United at St. James’ Park for their fifth game of Premier League 2021/22. Currently, both the teams are having a tough time climbing up the points table as they both lay low in the bottom half of the table, especially bottom five.

However, this came off to be a crucial match for both the teams in order to get some points in their pocket. As soon as the match begun, Newcastle United began to try and gain possession. Leeds’ attacks were determined enough to get Leeds the opening goal in the 13th minute, courtesy of a lucky assist by Patrick Bamford.

It was only later it was equalised a minute before halftime by Allan Saint-Maximin for Newcastle United. Allan received a solid assist inside the box to make it 1-1 for good. Ever since, there was a lot of competitive gaming but no goals came in following that.

In the end, the match ended in a draw and points were shared. Meanwhile, let’s have a look at how the players performed in today’s game :

Newcastle United

Karl Darlow (GK) (8.4/10) : A stellar performance by Karl as he manages to get as many as nine exceptional saves along with three crucial saves from inside the box.

Javier Manquillo (7.5/10) : The 27-year-old had a remarkable outing today. In defence he made five clearence and won seven tackle battles. He also was invincible at ground duels winning 10 out of 11.

Isaac Hayden (6.5/10) : Issac did seem to be lacking on pace while playing the game as he failed to make neat passes and kept on losing ground duels. He did a decent job at keeping the ball away from the box though.

Jamaal Lascelles (7/10) : The captain seemed to be pretty determined to clear the ball as he did that for eight times. He also had two attempts to get a goal but he was off target one while the other was on target and denied by the keeper.

Ciaran Clark (6.8/10) : A decent game for Clark as he was seen to be near the opposing goal trying to get a ball through and create opportunities while also making a valuable contribution in his own defence.

Matt Ritchie (6.9/10) : Apart from doing extremely well at defence, Matt has had a really hard time passing the ball around. He couldn’t pass it clean and he did fail on making successful crosses or any long ball.

Miguel Almirón (6.8/10) : The midfielder created a huge chance to bag a goal but sadly wasn’t converted into one. He himself at two opportunities at goal but was off target on both occasions.

Joe Willock (6.7/10) : A good candidate for scoring a goal but he couldn’t as he was way off target. He also seemed excellent with dribbling and tackling but failed miserably at winning ground duels.

Sean Longstaff (6.5/10) : Possession lost for over ten times and failing to win any ground duels conducted. He also had opportunities at goal, off which two were off target while the other one was denied.

Joelinton (6.9/10) : Joelinton gave a splendid neat pass inside the box to Allan which was the equaliser for Newcastle United. He did everything right while striking chances at goal but was way poor at winning ground duels.

Allan Saint-Maximin (7.6/10) : Allan did a fantabulous job by bringing in the equaliser, a minute before half-time. A beautiful assist by joelinton inside the box was controlled and converted into a magnificent finish in the back of the net to make. Apart from that, Allan had two more chances on target but denied on both occasions. A great game for the striker and Newcastle United.

Substitutes

Emil Krafth (6.2/10) : Just a fair few touches and won an ariel duel meanwhile. Emil also made a couple of touches and saw his team through till the final whistle.

Ryan Fraser (6.5/10) : In the bare minimum time he gor to be on field, Fraser got in a situation to have a shy at goal but he rather goes way off target.

Jacob Murphy (N/A)

Leeds United

Illan Meslier (GK) (7.7/10) : Illan didn’t stay too behind at being the goalkeeper of the night. He made six very valuable saves to keep the scoreboard intact. He also made four great saves from inside the box.

Stuart Dallas (6.4/10) : A decent performance by Stuart. He kept the ball away, won interceptions and did really well with defending. However, he lost possession on over fifteen occasions.

Luke Ayling (6.8/10) : Winning ground duels and tackle battles seemed pretty simple for Luke but he did give away the ball on thirteen occasions.

Liam Cooper (7.6/10) : The captain couldn’t have been kept out of the game. Cooper was excellent and did an all-round job which was praised by one too many. He was excellent with ground and ariel duels while contributing more than sufficiently in the defence department.

Junior Firpo (6.9/10) : Firpo missed a huge opportunity for a goal which could’ve turned things around for Leeds. He also had another opportunity at goal but blew that away by being off target.

Kalvin Phillips (7/10) : Kalvin was the heart of the team. He was to be seen running around everywhere on the pitch. He made four crucial clearences while he had an off target shot attempt at goal. Kalvin seemed really determined and kept running to win the ball.

Raphinha (7.5/10) : Raphinha did a lot in the 67 minutes he played before being substituted. Thirteen minutes into the game, Leeds take the lead. Raphinha ran for the ball which was assisted by Bamford wide outside. Raphinha Jinks inside before whipping in a dangerous cross that misses Rodrigo and settles into the far bottom corner.

Mateusz Klich (7.3/10) : Klich was excellent with passing and made some good key passes to keep the ball rolling. The strange part was when Klich had four on target shots under his belt but he didn’t score and failed to convert on any of them.

Rodrigo (7/10) : Apart from being quick and smart, Rodrigo struggled a lot at keeping the ball in play. He doesn’t do well with ground duels as well and has lost possession fifteen times.

Daniel James (6.5/10) : James played for 61 minutes before he got substituted for Tyler Roberts. James had a below average game. He won just four ground duels out of ten. He did have an attempt at goal but was way off target.

Patrick Bamford (7.3/10) : Patrick did a good job at keeping the ball going. So many attempts at goal but neither of them were converted. Bamford had three off target attempts and one on target which was later denied.

Substitutes

Tyler Roberts (6.5/10) : Tyler did a good job at handling a fair few balls but he ended up losing possession on too many times in his short stint of play.

Crysencio Summerville (6.4/10) : He barely won a couple of ground and ariel duels while he looked really good at his dribbling.
