Premier League: Watford vs Wolves Player Ratings as the Wolves score twice to win at home
Premier League: Watford vs Wolves
Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers opened their account in the Premier League 2021-22 season as the visitors put two past Watford. The first half was a cagey affair but the Wolves continued to have good possession. The visitors started the second half in commanding fashion as they dominated the attacking side that won midfield battles.
Francisco Sierralta inadvertently put his clearance into his own net and the visitors got the lead. Further, into the 83rd-minute mark Hwang, who came on as a substitute for his debut, pounced from a close range to score his first and Wolves’ second of the night.
Without a further ado let’s take a look at the player ratings for the fixture.
Premier League: Watford vs Wolves player ratings as
Watford
Daniel Bachmann 6/10
The Watford shot-stopper was a confident figure between the posts for the home side. Some of the clearances from the set pieces were key and displayed a strong hand when Trincao and Jimenez tested him.
Danny Rose 6/10
There was a concern when the former Spurs player landed awkwardly after winning a header against Semedo
Francisco Sierralta 5.5/10
Had a decent game until the turning moment came from him as he scored an own goal.
Troost Ekong 6.5/10
The Nigeria captain partnered well with Fransisco and was good on the ball trying to open up the channels for midfield.
Jeremy Ngakia 6/10
The young wing back was deployed in a difficult scenario where he had to nullify Adama Traore’s attacking trait. Had some shaky moments as Traore got the better of him.
Etebo 7/10
Shielded the backline when needed. However, he fouled Neves just off the edge and could have earned a second booking in the dying minutes of the first half.
Ismaila Sarr 7/10
A constant threat from the right wing. Could have done more in the final third but a bright performance.
Moussa Sissoko 6.5/10
The former Tottenham player was one of the key creators for Watford in the game. Often he opened the channels for the winger and distributed the ball well.
Juraj Kucka 6/10
Stabilized midfield when needed. Made a good block from Ruben Neves’ hit. However, he had quite an uneventful game all in all.
Emmanuel Bonaventure 6/10
Hit the shot just over the bar after breaking into the defense. Overall, had a decent game but the end product was lacking.
Joshua King
King tried to win the duel with the Wolves rearguard but struggled at times. Didn’t receive much of a service to turn things around.
Substitutes:
Cucho Hernandez 6/10
Tried to settle in but Wolves enjoyed a good spell at the end in every department which meant the substitute couldn’t do much.
Ken Sema N/A
Wolverhampton Wanderers
Jose Sa 7/10
Good pair of hands to deny Sarr and co. early in the game. Made some good clearances to keep the visitors in the game.
Roman Saiss 6.5
Commanded the left side in a 3-4-3 formation. His defensive awareness allowed Marcal to surge further forward. However, he was beaten by Sarr on the left flank on some occasions.
Connor Coady 7/10
It started at the heart of defense and was a resolute display from the England international. Had a chance to score himself but Bachmann saved his effort.
Max Kilman 7/10
Took care of the defense on the right flank as Semedo surged forward to contribute to the attack.
Nelsen Semedo 6.5/10
The former Barcelona wing back had a lot of room from the right flank to make things happen. The Portuguese helped contribute to the attack and had an astute chance to find the net when Trincao released him but Semedo’s shot was straight at the hands of the keeper.
Ruben Neves 7/10
An immense presence in the center of the park, he was on the spot to create some really good chances for the forwards. Had some opportunities to find the net by himself from the edge but Bachmann had a good day at the office at times.
Joao Moutinho 7/10
Made some eye-catching deliveries to Raul Jimenez and co. Joao and Neves ran the show in the second half.
Marcal 6/10
Surged forward at times to supply the attacking line while having a decent link up with midfield.
Adama Traore 6.5/10
His usual sprint caused havoc for the Hornets at times but the end product was somewhere missing.
Raul Jimenez 6.5/10
The striker was lively throughout the game but the killer instinct was missing in the box.
Francisco Trincao 7/10
Trincao combined well with Jimenez and Semedo and was a constant threat from the right flank. He has been a bright light since the start of the league campaign and his loan spell is going well.
Substitutes:
Daniel Podence 7.5/10
The substitute opens up the defense from the right side and sends a cross which ultimately helped the visitors put the game to bed.
Hwang Hee-Chan 8/10
Dream debut for the South Korean player. He pounced in from close range as Marcal’s shot was saved by keeper and he was for a rebound.
