Premier League: West Ham vs Leicester City Player Ratings
David Moyes’ West Ham United locked horns with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City at the London Stadium. Having won their first two games quite convincingly, West Ham are seated comfortably at third place while Leicester lay low in the bottom half at 11th.
The venue was set to witness an exhilarating and competitive encounter between the two teams and it started off living up to the expectations. West Ham had already begun to apply immense pressure on Leicester. Their hardwork paid off as Saïd Benrahma’s assit and Pablo Fornals finish gave West Ham the lead in the match.
A while later, Ayoze Pérez was sent off for making a horrific tackle at Pablo Fornals. The 10-men Leicester City were down in the dumps going into first-half. With the beginning of the second-half, it became worse for Leicester as Saïd Benrahma scored the second goal for West Ham off Michail Antonio’s assist. However, Youri Tielemans scored the first goal for Leicester to keep the faith going but soon met with a brace from Michail Antonio which was a kick in the gut for Leicester.
In the end, the scoresheet closed on a 4-1 tally with made it three out of three for West Ham United and moved them to the top of the points table. It was an exceptional game of football and the players performed really well. Let’s have a look at how they faired.
West Ham United
Łukasz Fabiański (GK) (6.2/10) : It was an average game for the Polish goalkeeper as he barely got any challenges at goal. He did get a standalone one which was turned to be the only goal for Leicester. A decent game all in all.
Vladimír Coufal (7.4/10) : The defender never fails to impress and always delivers for the team. Apart from making crucial interceptions and winning duels & tackles, Coufal assisted Antonio to help West Ham get up to 4-1.
Craig Dawson (7.1/10) : Dawson was a tough defender and made life miserable for the Leicester forwards. He made three important clearances while winning eight out of eight Ariel duels.
Angelo Ogbonna (6.8/10) : Angelo played more of a supporting role to the other defenders in the centre. He did a good job when challenges came his way and did block balls out of the box.
Aaron Cresswell (6.9/10) : Aaron was amongst one of the most active players on field. He did a commendable job and gave it all in while playing in the wing. He had a shy at goal but was off target. Although, he did lose position at multiple occasions.
Tomáš Souček (7/10) : Tomáš was all over the place and wanted to give his all in, into the match. He did a fine job at winning the ball and going for goal. He had two opportunities, both being off target. He also was unbeaten at winning Ariel duels.
Declan Rice (8/10) : The West Ham captain would certainly be delighted with that kind of performance. He too had a really good game and contributed to his team’s success. He made a great assist to Antonio to make it 3-1. He also had a shy at goal but was way off target.
Jarrod Bowen (7.5/10) : Jarrod played a massive supporting role for West Ham as he was seen to be running around the pitch in quest to keep possession. He made several good passes and played a huge supporting role in his team’s success.
Pablo Fornals (7.9/10) : Pablo scored the opening goal for West Ham, courtesy of Benrahma’s assist. He did a fine job at challenging the Leicester midfield & defence while making numerous key passes. A great match indeed for him.
Saïd Benrahma (7.7/10) : Couldn’t have asked for a better possible game than a 4-1 victory at the London Stadium. He scored the second goal for West Ham off Antonio’s assist while also assisting the opening goal of the encounter.
Michail Antonio (9.5/10) : Undoubtedly the man of the match for West Ham United. Antonio assisted Benrahma to make it 2-0. However, after Youri’s goal, Leicester had the slightest of hopes to make a comeback but Antonio struck back harder with two back to back goals in five minutes to make it 4-1. These were two exceptional goals by the talented footballer in front of his home crowd.
Substitutes :
Mark Noble (6/10) : Mark barely played for any time as he was subbed in the 89th minute of the encounter. He replaced Benrahma to enter the pitch. In his short stint he made 100% accurate passes.
Andriy Yarmolenko (6/10) : Andriy walked in between the 89th & 90th minute replacing the two time goalscorer, Antonio. He barely made five touches, but in those, he won a ground duel courtesy of a successful dribble attempt.
Leicester City :
Kasper Schmeichel (GK) (6.1/10) : Not the best day for Kasper. A day he’d rather like to forget and move on as he conceded a total of four goals throughout the course of the match.
Ricardo Domingos Barbosa Pereira (6.2/10) : It was a busy day for the defence unit at Leicester. Ricardo gave his all in and made several clearances, interceptions but in the end, couldn’t keep the ball away from goal.
Daniel Amartey (6/10) : It was a below average game for Daniel. He didn’t win a single duel, be it ground or Ariel. He struggled with passes, keeping possession and that cost them a lot of chances at saving them from the thrashing loss.
Çağlar Söyüncü (5.8/10) : It was indeed not the best of games for Çağlar. Despite making 10 clearances and winning several duels and interceptions, he gave away possession on fifteen occasions which made it difficult for the defence to be strong enough to contain the ball.
Luke Thomas (6.2/10) : Despite having an average game, Luke had a lot of positives to move ahead with. Luke made three really good clearances while winning five interceptions. He did win a couple of duels but gave away way too many balls and lost possession in the midfield.
Youri Tielemans (6.7/10) : Youri was the only good thing at the Leicester camp in this match as he managed to make good passes and make interceptions. He also scored a crucial goal for Leicester but ended up being a consolation one.
Wilfred Ndidi (6.1/10) : Wilfred partnered with Youri in the central midfield but didn’t have a great match as compared to him or many other players. He just won three out of 11 duel challenges on ground and lost possession on twelve occasions. However, the only positives were multiple clearances and winning several tackles and interceptions. Although, they didn’t do any good to helping Leicester get over the line.
Ayoze Pérez (5.5/10) : The Leicester forward had the worst possible game in the recently begun Premier League season. He had a shy at the goal but was off target. Ayoze played 40 minutes before being sent off with a straight red card for a horror tackle on Pablo Fornals, who had initially given the lead to West Ham with their opening goal.
James Maddison (6.8/10) : A decent game for James Maddison as he failed to help Leicester created big chances at goal. Although, he did a fair job at winning ground duels, interceptions, tackles, whatever challenges came his way. One of his attempts were blocked by the opposing keeper.
Harvey Barnes (6.2/10) : Harvey had a below average game today. He was seen to be struggling on the pitch to make accurate passes as he gave away possession on eleven occasions. However, he did a great job at winning ariel duels to redeem himself. While not being able to do much, he was subbed in the 64th minute and replaced by Patson Daka.
Jamie Vardy (6.5/10) : 81 minutes of gameplay didn’t bring any success in today’s game to Vardy. He neither created any opportunities nor recieved any. In gallantry attempts to win Ariel duels, he lost all battles. A tough day for the striker as he was replaced later by Kelechi Iheanacho.
Substitutes:
Patson Daka (6.5/10) : Patson walked in replacing Harvey Barnes in the 64th minute but didn’t get too many opportunities on the field. He did have a good time apart from his side losing 4-1.
Kelechi Iheanacho (6.4/10) : Iheanacho just got nine minutes of play in this encounter. The striker didn’t have much to contribute on-field due to lack of time available and lack of goal scoring opportunities.
Boubakary Soumaré (6.6/10) : Boubakary too had just nine minutes of game play but did get some action on-field. In his total of six touches, he won two ground duels which consisted a successful dribble attempt.
