“Pretty toxic relationship,” cheeky Daniil Medvedev takes a final dig at Indian Wells court after losing the final to Carlos Alcaraz
Daniil Medvedev once again blames the slow courts at Indian Wells after losing to Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz stormed past a red-hot Daniil Medvedev, who had been riding a 19-match winning streak, to claim his first Indian Wells Open. Alcaraz showcased a nuanced game beyond his years, mixing pulsating ground strokes with serve-and-volley and polished net play to dominate the match from start to finish. This stunning performance will undoubtedly boost Alcaraz to the No.1 ranking on the ATP computer for the second time.
The top seed defeated Medvedev in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday to claim his third Masters 1000 title. Many anticipated that it would be a very close final between the two. However, Alcaraz never let Medvedev take control during the match. He went on to win the final match and the tournament without losing a set.
The Russian took a final dig at the courts used for the the tournament while speaking at the trophy presentation ceremony. He said, “I had a pretty toxic relationship with the courts here. I would like to thank this court. I was giving a hard time to it, so it gave me a hard time also, rolled my ankle, but it gave me the chance to finish the tournament, so thanks a lot to this court.”
Medvedev previously showed his frustration on the slow nature of the courts. He even suffered a nasty fall during his match against Alexander Zverev and twisted his ankle. However, he did well to make a comeback and reach the finals of the Indian Wells Open.
Daniil Medvedev not worried about the loss, already focused on Miami Open

In their second ATP H2H encounter, and first, since Wimbledon 2021 where Daniil Medvedev easily won in straight sets, Alcaraz was in top form while Medvedev was not performing at his peak. The fifth seed was not only disappointed by missing out on his fifth ATP Masters 1000 title, but also by his failure to match his career-long win streak of 20 matches.
During the trophy ceremony he said, “Damn, one away from my record. That’s actually disappointing. This would be cool to try to beat it and maybe try to prolong it as long as possible. It’s great to have these streaks. I managed to win 19 matches in a row. I’m proud of it, and now it’s time to try to build a new streak. There is no other way in tennis.”
A much more determined Medvedev will go to Miami hoping that the courts are faster. He will be charged up to claim the title in the absence of Novak Djokovic and make amends for his loss at Indian Wells. However, Alcaraz will also look to defend his title. It will be yet another Masters 1000 title fight.
