On 10th April, Shubman Gill scored his 20th IPL fifty against Rajasthan Royals chasing 197. While the innings came in a winning cause, he broke a record set by one of the IPL’s greatest batters, Virat Kohli

During his 72 off 44, Shubman Gill completed 3,000 IPL runs. It came in the 8th over of the chase, where he took a single off Yuzvendra Chahal on the 5th ball of the over. This made him the youngest to score 3000 runs in the IPL, at the age of 24 years and 215 days.

Before him, the record belonged to Virat Kohli, who brought up his 3000th IPL run at the age of 26 years and 186 days. Gill took 15 innings less as well, bringing up in 94 innings. He is the 3rd joint fastest to 3000 runs. Chris Gayle was the fastest, taking 75 innings, while KL Rahul is 2nd on the list with 80. Gill is tied with Faf du Plessis and Jos Buttler

Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia lead Gujarat Titans to unlikely victory

Chasing 197, things looked tough for Gujarat Titans from the very first ball. By the 10th over, they had a run rate of only 7.6, losing Sai Sudarshan to Kuldeep Sen. In his very next over, Sen got the wickets of Matthew Wade and Abhinav Manohar, with an excellent delivery, putting the visitors on the back foot.

While Shubman Gill kept fighting from one end, GT middle order struggled with no David Miller. They reached 100 runs in the 13th over and at one point needed 86 off six overs, with Sen getting Vijay Shankar

RR depended heavily on their spinners, R. Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, but it backfired as the GT batters attacked them. Chahal finally did get the wicket of Gill, getting him stumped in the 16th over. Shahrukh Khan managed to get some boundaries, but departed for 14 runs.

The turning points of the match came in the 19th over, when GT needed 35 off 12. Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia hit Sen for 20 runs, with the pacer bowling two wides and a no-ball. Avesh Khan failed to defend 15 in the last over, as Khan and Tewatia chased the total down.

Despite being the better team for a majority of the match, GT managed to steal a win thanks to some excellent batting in the death overs. This is also RR’s first loss of the season, but they retain their spot at the top of the points table
