IPL 2021: “I practiced a lot before going to Vijay Hazare trophy” – Prithvi Shaw opens up on his preparation before the IPL

Prithvi Shaw silenced his critics with an explosive knock today to lead Delhi Capitals (DC) to victory along with fellow opener Shikhar Dhawan. The young opener did not have a very good season last year as he suffered from inconsistency. Following the IPL, he suffered from a horror show in the Adelaide test for India as well which led to him being dropped and criticized for his technique.
However, the Mumbai batsman came roaring back to form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by piling on the runs before he carried the form to the IPL today by playing a crucial role. Thanks to his knock, DC aced a stiff chase of 189 with ease as they got to the target with 8 balls to spare. Shikhar Dhawan was named the Man of the Match for his 85 but Shaw’s innings was just as important as the left-hander’s.
Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan speak following victory over CSK
Prithvi Shaw post-match about his form and said, “From Australia when I was dropped I was working from there itself, coming back and across early, so I practised before going to Vijay Hazare with Pravin Amre and worked on that. I had a good plan before going into that tournament, so it is working quite well.”
Talking of being dropped from the Indian team, Shaw said, “I don’t want to think about it because it was a disappointing moment for me but I have to move on and if something is wrong with my batting or technique, I have to improve and I am working hard on myself.”
Meanwhile, Man of the Match Shikhar Dhawan was all praise for Shaw as he said, “It is tremendous to watch Prithvi. He played some effortless shots. So good and so happy for him as he didn’t have a good IPL last time around.“
Speaking then about his own batting, “I really enjoyed my batting. Was enjoying the way I was hitting the ball. Prithvi was batting really well. He carried on with his form from Vijay Hazare. It was important to get off to a good start because we were chasing a big total. I have to innovate a few shots and I enjoy taking up challenges. I was playing the ball close to the body. The wicket was a little sticky. I knew my game plan,” he said.
DC play their next game against Rajasthan Royals on the 15th of April.
