Priya Malik wins gold medal at World Cadet Wrestling Championships

Medals seems to be pouring for India on the sporting stage, as just a day after Mirabai Chanu scripted history at Tokyo Olympics, Priya Malik raised the nation’s tricolor in Budapest. Mirabai Chanu won the silver medal in Women’s 49kg weightlifting event, as India secured their first Tokyo Olympic medal.
However, there was more good news in sight for India, as Priya Malik bagged the gold medal in the World Cadet Wrestling Championships on Sunday. Malik has been a consistent performer in the past few years, and won the gold medal in the 2019 edition of Khelo India which were held in Pune.
Priya Malik defeated Belarusian, Kseniya Patapovich 5-0 in the Women’s 73kg weight category to bring home the title for India.
Tannu and Priya Malik achieve glory in Budapest
Just three days earlier on Thursday, Indian wrestler, Tannu also managed to bag a gold medal at the World Cadet Wrestling Championships. She dominated the entire field at the event, as she won the title without conceding even a single point.
The final was a close affair, but Tannu managed to gain control, and eventually defeated Belarus’ Valeryia Mikitsich in the final match. Another Indian, Varsha bagged a bronze medal in the Women’s 65kg category, defeating Turkey’s Duygu Gen. Hence, the past week has proved to be a fruitful one for Indian sports, as female athletes have managed to raise the nation’s tricolor on the biggest stages.
