The qualifying rounds of the 2026 Mexican Open are underway on the outdoor hardcourts of the Arena GNP Seguros in Acapulco, Mexico. The main draw of the 33rd edition of the ATP 500 event will start from February 23, while the final is scheduled to be held on February 28.
Alexander Zverev will enter the tournament as the first seed. He will lock horns with Frenchman Corentin Moutet in what will also be his first match since his defeat to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinal of the Australian Open.
Zverev will be chasing his first title since winning his first title since winning the 2025 Munich Open. He has so far featured in two finals in the event: he lost to 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in 2019 and won in 2021 by defeating two-time Grand Slam runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Alex de Minaur, Casper Ruud, and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina are the second, third, and fourth seeds in the tournament, respectively. The remaining seeded players in the draw are Flavio Cobolli, Valentin Vacherot, Cameron Norrie, and Frances Tiafoe.
The Aussie clinched this year’s Rotterdam Open by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime, winning his career’s fourth ATP 500 title. He has, in fact, won the Mexican Open twice, defeating Tommy Paul and Ruud in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Ruud will be chasing his first title of the season. The last time he won a title was at the 2025 Stockholm Open, where he defeated Ugo Humbert. Last week, Ruud returned to the court at the Delray Beach Open since becoming a father. He lost to Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinals. The Norwegian ace will be chasing his 15th tour-level title.
Fokina, who has so far featured in five singles finals, has yet to win a title. The last time he reached a title clash was at the 2025 Swiss Indoors, where he lost to Joao Fonseca. Fokina, in fact, finished as the runner-up in Acapulco last year, losing the match to Tomas Machac.
The Czech ace chose not to defend his title. He instead was scheduled to play Denis Shapovalov in the opening round of the Dubai Tennis Championships, but he decided to withdraw from the tournament.
As the Mexican Open is an ATP 500 tournament, the champion will receive 500 ranking points, while the runner-up will receive 300. The semifinalists and the quarterfinalists will receive 200 and 100 points, respectively. Those who will reach the second round will get 50 points, but no points will be awarded to those playing in the first round.
