After the Middle East Swing and the Golden Swing, the focus has shifted toward the season’s first ATP 1000 Masters and third WTA 1000 tournament- the Indian Wells Open, which is considered the ‘fifth Grand Slam’. The tournament will see the world’s best players fight it out against each other to win the 1000 points as well as the massive prize money that’s offered.
The main draws of both ATP and WTA events are scheduled to start on Wednesday (March 5) to kick start the Sunshine Double. The final of Women’s singles will be concluded on March 15 while Men’s singles will be wrapped up the following day.
Top players, the likes of World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, World No.2 Iga Swiatek, and World No.3 Coco Gauff along with other seeded players have received first-round byes. Indian Wells will mark World No.5 Madison Keys‘ first tournament since winning her first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
In Men’s singles, World No.1 Jannik Sinner won’t be playing as he’s serving the three-month doping suspension given to him by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Alexander Zverev will be the top seed, while Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed, could once again meet Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.

The total prize pool for this year’s Indian Wells Open is $19,387,080 (ATP+WTA), which means each event has a prize pool of $9,693,540. The winners will get $1,201,125, which is slightly more than what Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz pocketed last year.

Third round | $64,500 |
Round of 16 | $110,250 |
Quarterfinals | $202,000 |
Semifinals | $354,850 |
Runner-up | $638,750 |
Champion | $1,201,125 |
Sabalenka, the runner-up in the 2023 Indian Wells, will be aiming for her first Indian Wells singles title. Swiatek is the defending champion, having won the tournament in 2022 and 2024. She is also the most recent WTA player to complete the Sunshine Double in 2022.
In Men’s singles, Alcaraz is a two-time defending champion, beating Daniil Medvedev in both finals. He will be aiming to join Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic to complete the three-peat at the Californian desert.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion will enter the tournament as the most successful player in the history of the tournament in Men’s singles (along with Federer). He has clinched the title five times, but he certainly won’t be the favorite to win due to his poor run of forms.
