“The best fight company” – Pros lauds UFC for saving UFC 279 by rescheduling the main event between Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson

Tony Ferguson calls out Nate Diaz

UFC 279 was supposed to feature the main event bout between Khamzat Chimaev vs UFC legend Nate Diaz. However, things have taken an interesting turn of events. Initially, the news broke out that Chimaev might not be able to make the required weight. During the weigh-ins, Chimaev was eight pounds above the weight limit.

As the ‘Borz’ failed to make the weight, UFC had no other options but to come out with a solution to save the card. Later, UFC present, Dana White revealed that they have done some changes to the card featuring the same fighters. According to White, Diaz will take on Ferguson and Chimaev will fight Kevin Holland and both the fights would be of five rounds. This left Li Jingliang who was previously fighting Ferguson to fight Daniel Rodriguez in a catchweight bout.

Fighters react to UFC sudden arrangements for Tony Ferguson vs Nate Diaz at UFC 279

After the historic shake-up at UFC 279, MMA pros took to Twitter in order to share their response to the new fight card.

UFC middleweight fighter, Derek Brunson in a tweet mentioned that with Diaz vs Ferguson and Chimaev vs Holland, the fight card got better. He wrote :

Former UFC double champion and current commentator, Daniel Cormier explained that the event turned out great and the credit should be given to the UFC to arrange all this in a very less span of time.

Belal Muhammad seems to be excited for the fights and showed his appreciation for fighters to take the fights at a very short notice.

Darren Till was also satisfied with the new fight card as he said it is great. Till particularly gave Li Jingliang the props for fighting an opponent who is 10 pounds heavier than the Chinese. He wrote :

“Nate gets the fight he deserves…
Khamzat gets to smesh Holland…
& Li & D.Rod will actually be a sick fight, plus Li fighting a guy 10 pounds heavier than him.
What a G!!”

Former MMA fighter, Jake Shields also was impressed by the new fights as he tweeted the same on his official account.
