Like every other year, Paris Saint-Germain have once again fallen short where it matters most! Despite the Ligue 1 champions prioritizing success in Europe over everything else, their historical struggles in the competition showed itself yet again in the second leg of the semi-final. Against all odds, German side Borussia Dortmund toppled the French giants 2-0 on aggregate to book their spot in what is their third-ever UCL final.
Despite bringing in the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe, the Parisiens have yet again fallen short of their goal. As the internet reacted to the disappointing result in the semi-final, many could only laugh at the fate of Luis Enrique‘s men.
Similar to the first leg, Dortmund enjoyed the greater share of chances as PSG failed to convert crucial opportunities to go ahead. Moreover, neither Mbappe nor Ousmane Dembele had significant shots on goal.
As their partnership failed to materialize in the semis, the traveling contingent of away fans surely got their money’s worth at the Parc des Princes.
Fans react to PSG’s unexpected exit in the UCL semi-final
Borussia Dortmund will be waiting for the victors of Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich roughly three weeks from now. June 2nd will be just the third time Dortmund will play a UCL final and the first since 2013.
As PSG were sent home packing, the internet has had its verdict on the same. A fan said that PSG were a small club trying to pose as a big one.
Another said that Kylian Mbappe’s mind was already in Madrid while playing against Dortmund. Yet another chipped in that German sides are PSG’s kryptonite, pointing to the fact that they have only failed to score against either Dortmund or Bayern Munich in UCL home matches. Ousmane Dembele was mercilessly trolled for his abysmal performance in front of goal.
Fans didn’t forget how heavily the club have invested in bringing in top talent to secure the UCL. A comment read that PSG should try spending even more next season so that they can lose again.
With Kylian Mbappe set to leave the club at the end of the season, things aren’t looking good for the Parisiens. As it stands, Dembele is set to lead the attack next year.
