PSG star Mbappe ‘thinking hard’ about new contract; keeps potential suitors Liverpool, Real Madrid interested

Kylian Mbappe, the 22 year-old-striker scored a brace in PSG’s rout over Montpellier in the weekend. However, what drew more attention were his post-match comments about his contract renewal.
He has been linked to a number of clubs over the last year as his contract at PSG ends next summer. Real Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City have all kept an eye on the youngster’s progress at Paris.
Mbappe not yet ready to commit future to PSG
Mbappe moved to the French capital in 2018 on a record fee of €120 million from Monaco. He made an instant impact at PSG adding to their plethora of attacking talent. At just 22 years of age he has an extraordinary resume to his name.
PSG are preparing a contract extension offer to Mbappe assuring him of a long term prospect for the player. French outlet ‘L’Équipe’ claims that if PSG want him to stay at the Parc des Princes, they will have to guarantee him a project that motivates him.
Mbappé is reported to have asked for guarantees that they can fight for the Champions League. Otherwise, he will pack his bags and look for another destination. The last major obstacle PSG will face is to whether keep both Neymar and Mbappe at club. The club have suffered huge losses due to the pandemic and keeping both players would be a huge burden on its wage bill.
Spanish giants Real Madrid have been tracking the star as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo as the aging Benzema is also an issue for Los Blancos. A move to Madrid looks difficult as the club continues to struggle with finances. Madrid can still look to swoop in at the last minute if Mbappe doesn’t sign a new contract over the next year.

Mbappe stated, “We are talking with the club. I am thinking about it, because if I sign, it will be in order to invest myself for the long term into PSG. I am very happy here. The supporters and the club have always helped me. I’m going to think about what I want to do in the next few years, where I want to be.
I am reflecting on it, not trying to buy time or anything like that. I don’t want to sign a contract and then one year later say I want to leave because I did not want to sign the contract. If I sign, I will stay, so I have to think about it.”
Even with one year left on his contract, Mbappe’s transfer would still cost over €100 million, along with substantial wages. He currently earns almost €12m net a year in Paris. Liverpool and Real Madrid will want Mbappe to run his contract down before both clubs plot a move for the striker.
