PSV Eindhoven claimed an unbelievable 3-2 comeback victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in a fifth round Champions League encounter. The Eredivisie side staged an impressive return to emerge winners, after falling two goals behind in the very first half.
The Ukrainian side went in front in the 8th minute, thanks to forward Danylo Sikan’s opener. Oleksandr Zubkov doubled the visitors’ lead in the 37th minute, putting them in control of the match. However, PSV midfielder Malik Tillman scored a free-kick goal in the 82nd minute to bring the hosts back into the game. He then leveled the score in the 90th minute, with a thumping strike from outside the box. Ricardo Pepi finished off the scoring with a 95th minute goal, to secure a comeback win for the Dutch side.
What many believe was a turning point was Pedro Henrique’s 70th minute red card. Henrique was sent off for a tackle on PSV’s Johan Bakayoko. Nonetheless, the win helped PSV move up to the 18th place on the UCL table. The Peter Bosz-led side now has eight points from five matches, having won two, drawn two and lost one match in their campaign until now. PSV have been on a high this season, as they also remain on top of the Eredivisie table with 36 points, five points ahead of second-placed Utrecht.

PSV have now won two of their last four UCL matches, in which they were behind by two or more goals, with their last one being against Sevilla in 2023. Meanwhile, this week also saw PSV’s arch-rivals Feyenoord producing a surprising comeback against Manchester City, ending the match 3-3.
Liverpool look towards PSV forward to replace Mohamed Salah, as Egyptian nears end of his contract
The Reds have reportedly identified PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Bakayoko as a replacement for Mohamed Salah. The 32-year-old will be out of contract in 2025, and there are a lot of uncertainties regarding his future at the club.
Salah is yet to receive a new contract, making it unlikely that he would stay beyond 2025. Finding someone to step into one of the club’s record goal-scorers will be a massive challenge. However, the Reds have identified Bakayoko as a replacement. An exciting young right winger, the 21-year-old Belgian has already shone in the Eredivisie with five goals and three assists this season.
Liverpool have also signed Italian forward Federico Chiesa, and the 27-year-old could also be a potential replacement for Salah. Apart from Bakayoko, the club has also shortlisted three other names, including Mohammed Kudus, Karim Adeyemi and Omar Marmoush.
