Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have been mathematically eliminated from the 2026 playoffs, Travis Kelce and his future have taken precedence among all matters concerning the franchise.
Even before their playoff hopes vanished into thin air, the superstar tight end’s struggles had some believing this could be his last dance on the gridiron.
He might have wanted to go out with a bang, i.e., win a 4th Super Bowl this season, and then ride off into the sunset with his fiancée, musical superstar Taylor Swift.
Now, Patrick Mahomes‘ season-ending ACL tear has thrown a wrench in his plans, as the recovery timetable could see him possibly miss the first few games of next season.
It’s got to be the Swift curse. After they ran out of the little bit of juice.

This was Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua, who first detailed how the Chiefs struggled with Rashee Rice‘s absence and a lack of a proper running game.

Then, he shifted towards talking about how the curse of Taylor Swift was prevalent in the franchise. He believes that since the Grammy Award-winning singer has been associated with Travis Kelce and the Chiefs, they have not been winning.
He might have forgotten that the franchise won Super Bowl LVIII in her first official season as the tight end’s girlfriend. However, he might have a point, as since then, the Chiefs have been going downhill.
Maxx Crosby thinks Travis Kelce will retire after this season
Even if Puka Nacua might be one of the few who think that Taylor Swift’s presence is causing the Chiefs’ downfall, there are others who think Travis Kelce would retire regardless.

I think Kelce does retire, but I mean, Mahomes is Mahomes. He’s going to be back. He’ll be fine.

The Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher and his podcast co-hosts were discussing the ACL tears that dampened the Week 15’s mood. After discussing how Micah Parsons‘ injury impacts the Green Bay Packers, they went on to discuss the Chiefs (18:48).

Maxx Crosby believes Patrick Mahomes’ ACL tear might have been the final straw for his tight end. Knowing how long he will be out for, Kelce might have already made plans to call it a day once this season is officially over.
The pass rusher, however, does believe that the Chiefs will bounce back, as they did after trading away Tyreek Hill. He believes the team revolves around Mahomes. Therefore, the 36-year-old Kelce staying or leaving might not impact their decisions.
Chris Russo did not appreciate Travis Kelce ignoring media
Patrick Mahomes’ ACL tear came along with the Chiefs’ elimination from playoff contention. Facing two disappointments in one game, Travis Kelce did not speak with the media after the game.
Instead, he took to his podcast, New Heights, to talk about his QB’s injury, and how he knows Mahomes will be back stronger than ever. However, that did not sit well with Chris Russo.
I couldn’t care less about his stupid podcast… No serious sports fan listens to that nonsense anyway… You blow everybody off, walking off the field, and don’t talk to the press when you get in the car. That is wrong… You give them five minutes, you give them a couple of sentences.

The longtime analyst knows his ESPN colleague, Jason Kelce, also hosts that podcast. But he did not care about it, as Russo felt it was not right to withhold an opinion from the press, just because they wanted to give it to their podcast viewers.
