Puka Nacua hit the jackpot. Not everyone gets the chance to learn from a Super Bowl winner and then a future Hall of Famer.
The Los Angeles Rams’ young wide receiver played his first two seasons with the club’s single-season reception and receiving yards leader, Cooper Kupp. After Kupp departed for Seattle, the brass dove into the free agency for a replacement.
They discovered the perfect guy for the job—Davante Adams. The 3x All-Pro and 6x Pro Bowler was without a team after the Jets released him following a regime change.
Without wasting any second, Nacua linked up with Adams, and they began training together.
Davante [Adams], as soon as he stepped into the [Rams] facility, has been fantastic. The ability to learn from another all-time great has been, I feel like I’m stealing… I’m like a kid in a candy store. I’ve had Matthew Stafford, Sean McVay, [Cooper] Kupp, and now Davante Adams. My life is pretty good.

Adams played a total of 13 games in 2024 for the Raiders and the Jets, including a game against the Rams in week 16. He caught 7 passes for 68 yards and scored one touchdown in a 19-9 defeat.
Nacua was fortunate to have a front-row seat. He witnessed firsthand the reason behind fans labeling Adams among the best receivers of his generation.
[Davante’s] got the ability to change pace while he’s moving, to win against negative leverage, and his suddenness at the line—it’s fantastic to see… His ability to move defenders all over the field is awesome to see.

Adams was on the San Francisco 49ers’ radar before the Rams’ head coach, Sean McVay, persuaded him to sign for the LA franchise instead.
This is like true optimism versus just hoping. Obviously, knowing what I know about the management there, the players, the team success they’ve had in recent years and just over time…those are usually the type of teams that have stressed success. The most important thing was a good, winning team.

Adams signed a two-year contract worth $44 million. He recently participated in the American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament alongside Aaron Rodgers, Travis Kelce, Jason Kelce, and Baker Mayfield.
Rams defensive back shared his honest opinion on the Puka Nacua-Davante Adams duo
One individual who attended the ACC golf tournament was Rich Eisen. The longtime football maestro invited Rams safety Quentin Lake to his show on the NFL Network channel.

During the episode, Eisen asked Lake whether he is a fan of the Adams and Nacua pairing because both may be receivers but hold very different approaches to the game. Adams is a true X (slot) receiver who loves breaking ankles of DBs. Nacua, meanwhile, possesses impeccable route-running skills that come in handy while targeting YAC (yards after catch).
Lake, first of all, acknowledged that one receiver is still green, and the other is on an HOF trajectory. However, the Rams coaches can use both of their strong suits in the game.
These are guys that have not only perfected their craft—obviously, Puka is still learning—but it is a force to be reckoned with.

Adams will not face any of his former teams, like his former quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. The Rams open their 2025-26 campaign at home against the Houston Texans. ESPN Bet projected that the Rams will win 10.5 games to qualify for the wildcard round.
