When Puka Nacua decided to make a career shift and jump from a stellar basketball career to a gridiron, there hadn’t been much expectation from him. However, in his rookie year with the Los Angeles Rams, the wide receiver proved himself to be one of the most productive rookies of the 2023 NFL season.

Apart from his magic on the football field, Nacua has earned great respect and recognition off-field for his cheerful demeanor and the great bond he shares with his mother, Penina.

He widely appreciates her contributions and impact on his life, and that’s why, on the special occasion of Mother’s Day, the Rams’ star receiver surprised her with a brand-new car.

Rams Tapes captured the beautiful moment where Penina broke into tears after receiving the special gift from her son. An individual showed her to the car, where Nacua was waiting for her. As she reached him, he jumped out of the car and went ahead to hug his mother.

He then told her about the present, and Penina, with overwhelming emotions, hugged him and began crying.

Thank you Puka…I haven’t had a new car since your dad bought me a car.
Penina said, remembering her husband who passed away in 2012

It was truly an emotional moment, as the car was a special gift for Penina because it was the first new car she had since her husband surprised her with one by parking it in their driveway nearly a decade ago. After his demise, she raised Nacua and his brothers all by herself as a single parent.

New dynamic duo poised to make NFL history

Two wide receivers with the highest receiving yardage count in NFL history are the Detroit Lions’ Calvin Johnson and the Rams’ Cooper Kupp.

Interestingly, both of them had Matthew Stafford as their quarterback, and now that he has been paired with rookie Nacua, it appears he might be the receiver to make history.

However, Nacua isn’t the only one at an advantage with the Stafford pairing, as many consider the 2023’ NFL All-Time Rookie Reciever might ensure the quarterback’s path to the future Hall of Fame. Stafford is known to have a great history of targeting his best players, and that will certainly be Nacua next season.

Given that the quarterback’s name stands on shaky ground in terms of becoming a future Hall of Famer, his losing record can be used against him. But if he doesn’t retire in the next couple of years, his pairing with Nacua might also bring him the glory he seeks.
