Carlos Alcaraz is making big strides toward his second ATP title of the season. Following the Rotterdam Open, where the Spaniard clinched a three-set win over Alex de Minaur in the final, Alcaraz skipped the Golden Swing and chose to play the Middle East Swing.

His next opponent Luca Nardi on the other hand, is searching for his first title of the season. The 21-year-old from Italy, who made his main draw debut at the Australian Open this year, is playing his sixth official tournament of this year, including two Challengers.

Carlos Alcaraz arrived in Doha on the back of his successful campaign at the Rotterdam Open, where he became the first Spanish man to claim the title. It was also his first indoor hard-court title victory.

The 21-year-old, who started the 2025 season at the Australian Open and failed to complete his Career Grand Slam due to his quarterfinal defeat to Novak Djokovic, knocked out Marin Cilic in the first round in Doha. The win however didn’t come easily as Alcaraz had to fight hard to beat the 2014 US Open champion with scoreline of 6-4, 6-4.

Luca Nardi, on the other hand, eliminated Yasutaka Uchiyama and Mikhail Kukushkin in the first two qualifying matches. He scheduled the second-round clash with Alcaraz following his 6-4, 6-3 win over Zhang Zhizhen.

Nardi, who came close to lifting the Koblenz Open, participated at the Qatar Open following his first-round exit at the Open 13. His first tournament of this season was the ASB Classic where the World No.85 reached the fourth round but suffered a straight-set defeat to eventual finalist Zizou Bergs.

Nardi, who had defeated Novak Djokovic at the 2024 Indian Wells Masters, is yet to take home his first ATP title. He has made his main draw debut in every Major and has so far won seven titles on the ATP Challenger Tour.
