Quincy Wilson’s ice cream plan for summer gets postponed as he becomes the youngest male track athlete to represent Team USA at the Olympics 2024. The high school phenom is headed to Paris after a superb performance at the USA Trials.

The young star took to Instagram to officially announce the news in all caps, “WE ARE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS”. Although it’s not yet decided who he’ll run with, the news itself reached its peak point noting how the athlete is only 16. He’ll be part of the 4×400 relay race at the meet.

Previously, American track athletes Jim Ryun and Erriyon Knighton were dubbed as the youngest to participate in the race at the Olympics. Wilson heard of the news through his coach Joe Lee who later commented about the incident on USA Today.

The call came directly to me from USA Track & Field. I told Quincy afterwards with the good news.

However, the news was not quite relayed in a straightforward manner to Wilson. Lee played a slight joke as he said,

I was extremely nervous, and then he called me and said just like, 'Unfortunately, we have some bad news.’ And then he was like, 'I'm just kidding. We're going to Paris.'

Wilson expressed feeling “ecstatic” and “running around the house” after getting to make his dream come true. Every athlete dreams of participating in the Olympics, and the 16-year-old star just made his dream come true.

Following his 400m race, Quincy Wilson said he was praying to make the team this year and held off binging on fast foods this summer. He was preparing himself in case “I make the team” and “have to regroup”. Seems like his decision to stay away from junk food was the right to do.

Wilson’s hard work was rewarded as coach Joe Lee made the call. He said,

I don’t know if my season is over yet, I don’t want to go eat ice cream too soon.

Remembering watching Justin Gaitlin and Usain Bolt go head to head in the race, Wilson felt, “I want to be up there one day.” Following the news of his Olympic participation, he told his family how “it’s dream come true.”

Wilson’s performance at the USA Trials turned heads in Oregon as he not only set the U-18 world record in the 400m dash but also shadowed his own time later the same weekend. He broke Justin Robinson’s record of 44.84 seconds with his own 44.66 seconds in the 400m race.

In the semifinals, he broke his own points with 44.59 seconds on June 23. The fans are excited to see the young phenom on the race tracks. It’ll undoubtedly be one of his most memorable experiences in the long run.
