Quinnen Williams started for the New York Jets in the October 5 defeat to the Dallas Cowboys. It was the Jets’ fifth straight defeat to start the Aaron Glenn era, which ended in week 8.
Fast forward one month, Williams was surrounded by the Dallas and the national media after the Jets traded him to the Cowboys for two high picks and defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
When reflecting on his time in New York, Williams summed up the whole experience with a single word: frustrating.
They knew I was frustrated. I think the world knew I was frustrated being there so long and still losing. But like I say, any ultra-competitor, man, any guy who plays this game to win is going to be frustrated, no matter if you win 100 games and lose that one.

Williams was on the receiving end of 75 losses in 108 games with the Jets. It’s only natural to feel frustrated. However, unlike some, the 27-year-old never complained and kept refining his craft.
In Dallas, he is reunited with his former defensive line coach, Aaron Whitecotton. Whitecotton was with the New York Jets from 2021 to 2024. During that phase, Williams became an All-Pro and Pro Bowler.
I think anybody can look at the resume. Before I had Whitecotton, I kinda was ascending to be a good defensive tackle. But once Whitecotton came into my life as a coach, I became an All-Pro and Pro Bowler. The techniques that he’s taught me, the things he’s done for me in my career, have been unbelievable and kinda transcended my career to this day. Being paired back with him, I know the sky is the limit, not for only me, but for this group also.

Williams’ CV is as good as it can get for an elite DT. At the Jets, he accumulated 322 total tackles, 40.0 sacks, 59 tackles for loss, 8 forced fumbles, 3 fumble returns, and 14 pass deflections.
Quinnen Williams shared his opinion on being viewed as Micah Parsons’ replacement
Ahead of the 2025 season, Jerry Jones shocked the football world by trading the Cowboys’ best defender, Micah Parsons, to the Green Bay Packers. In the post-Parsons era, the Cowboys’ defense languishes at the bottom of nearly every defensive metric in football.

Williams is now being viewed as the heir apparent to Parsons. However, Williams believes that his skill set differs from Parsons’.
We’re totally different players. I’m more interior presence, interior push, physical, strong, and a good interior pass rusher. I’m just here to do my job to the best of my ability and be a difference-maker from an interior standpoint and a defensive line standpoint the best way I can.

The Cowboys also traded for veteran linebacker Logan Wilson from the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for a seventh-round pick. Speaking with the media, Wilson revealed that he’s looking forward to working with Williams at the base of the Cowboys’ defense.
I don’t know much about the guy, I just know he’s an incredible player. I’m looking forward to it.
Logan Wilson told Nick Harris of the Dallas Star-Telegram

The Cowboys are on a bye the coming week, which gives both Williams and Wilson extended time to learn Matt Eberflus’ playbook. After the bye, the Cowboys travel to Vegas to play the Raiders.
