IPL 2021: Quinton de Kock completes quarantine; to be available for selection against KKR
Quinton de Kock
Mumbai Indians (MI) did not get off to the start they would have wanted this year as they fell to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a last-ball thriller. It has almost become tradition for the side to lose their first game of the season before going on to make a remarkable comeback in the tournament. MI would certainly hope that is the case this year as they seek to live up to the tag of ‘defending champions’.
It went wrong at the death in the first match for MI with regard to their batting as they succumbed to a stunning spell of bowling from surprise package Harshal Patel. Earlier, Chris Lynn, Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan had laid down an excellent platform for a late flourish which just did not arrive. In the second innings as well, MI had more than a decent chance to restrict RCB but they couldn’t do so as AB de Villiers came clutch.
Zaheer Khan confirms Quinton de Kock’s return
Mumbai Indians’ Director of Cricket, Zaheer Khan confirmed today that South African wicket-keeper batsman and one of the vital cogs in their wheel, Quinton de Kock would be back for the next match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). de Kock would thus, be expected to slot right into the opener’s slot along with skipper Rohit Sharma despite the fact that Lynn scored 49 runs.
“Quinton is out of his quarantine. He did his practice session yesterday with the team, [he’s] looking forward to the season. So yes, he’s available for tomorrow’s game,” Zaheer told ESPNCricinfo.
Zaheer also spoke of Hardik Pandya and why he did not bowl saying, “There was a little bit of a shoulder concern. I don’t think it’s worrisome, you will very soon see him bowl. For the timelines, you’ll have to ask the physio but in terms of Hardik the bowler coming in this tournament, we are very confident that he will be chipping in.”
MI face KKR in Chennai tomorrow at 7:30 PM.
